Firearm Enthusiasts Firearm ownership is a very responsible process of training, safety and familiarity with your firearms. More and more of our members are learning the importance of practice. Take the opportunity to practice at least once a month to maintain your skill level and familiarity with your firearms. Remember to save your targets if you want an evaluation. If you need a shooting partner, check on the roster and make a call. This is a good way to meet your fellow enthusiasts. Meetings are the first Friday of the month at 4 pm in Lodge Ballroom. Contacts, Ron Morgan (951) 315-0466, e-mail ronm627@aol.com, or Steve Meier (909) 528-3342, e-mail sm45para@gmail. com. Reminder: No firearms allowed on the Lodge premises. ~ Ron Morgan Motorcycle Club Golfing for Fun Our Thursday "Day Rides" continue to be fun when the weather cooperates. Ron Morgan is considering becoming a new motorcycle owner and joined us on a couple of our day rides in February, renting different bikes in order to find what "fits" him best. Last Thursday, seven of our regular riders met up with Ron at the Palm Desert Marriott, where he rented a Harley, and we then headed out for a circumnavigation of the Salton Sea. Our first stop was at the Starbucks on Hwy. 86 where we all chatted with Ron to get his impressions of the bike. Then it was off to Niland for our lunch stop. After lunch, we continued south to Brawley, Westmoreland and then west on Hwy. 79 to Borrego Springs. Ocotillo/Borrego was having a Jeep event so there was a lot of activity. It was a great day with beautiful weather and lots of sunshine. Ron logged over 220 miles and did very well. We are looking forward to the first of this year's "Distance Rides" which will be to Death Valley at the end of March. Our route will take us up to Lone Pine for the first night's stay. Day two will include touring the northern part of the park and then over to Beatty, NV for the second night. On day three, we re-enter the park and go south through Bad Water and exit at Shoshone on our way to Red Rock Park and Las Vegas for our final night. We will return home on day four. Come join us to chat about our motorcycling experiences and plan future rides. We meet in the Lodge Ballroom at 6 pm on the first Wednesday of the month. ~ Howard Lyon Some of our Golf Extension Rules for Quick Play 1. A stroke does not occur unless observed by more than one golfer. 2. It's not a gimmie if you're still away unless it's deemed "that's good" by anyone in the group. 3. Each golfer receives two mulligans to be taken anywhere except in a sand trap or on the green, for every nine holes played without penalty, unless the golfer needs more. 4. Whenever not on the green or in the sand trap the golfer may move the ball two club head lengths, unless really in trouble in which case the golfer may move the ball two club lengths, in any direction. 5. There shall be no such thing as a lost ball. The missing ball is somewhere on or near the course and will eventually be found and pocketed by someone else. Therefore it becomes a stolen ball. You should not compound the felony by charging yourself a penalty stroke. We,"The Distinguished Duffers," often play Friday mornings. Our home course has been Yucaipa. As spring weather improves we will seek other local venues to conquer. If you have some reasonable golfing capability please join with us to have fun and improve your game. If you would like to join us, please contact Tim Jacobson, tjacobson@dc.rr.com, (951) 707-3563 or Phil Harris (951) 922-6676, philip.harris54@yahoo.com. ~ Tim Jacobson Hiking Club Our planned hikes are April 10, to Black Mountain and April 24, to Pipes Canyon Loop. We also plan May 8, to Jenks Lake and Poop Out Mountain, and May 22, to San Bernardino Peak. But we may make changes. April and May are the months in Southern California when hikers scour daily reports of wildflower sightings to plan their adventures. This year sightings were not encouraging in May but with the good soaking in early March the optimists are promising visual rewards for treks into our deserts. Poppies, our state flower (photo to the right) have made their showy appearance… even here within Four Seasons. The blooms first appear in the Imperial Valley and then march north and upward through June. In April, the Anza-Borrego Springs area and the Morongo/Yucca Valley are in full bloom. Death Valley and Joshua Tree are just beginning at the lower elevations. Remember whether you are walking, biking or motoring animals come to life in the spring also and some do not like intruders in their homeland.
