Lifestyles Advisory Did you know that volunteers in the United States are 63 million strong and hold up the foundation of civil society? They help their neighbors, serve their communities, and provide their expertise. No matter what kind of volunteer work they do, they are contributing in invaluable ways. Today, the Independent Sector announced that the latest value of a volunteer hour is $25.43 – up 3% from the previous year. That figure, estimated from data collected in 2018, shows the incredible contributions volunteers make to their communities and our country. The Sun Lakes advisory committee needs your help, won't you please submit your form and join one of the 13 advisory committees in Sun Lakes. If you love the covers on the Lifestyles magazine, they are from Sun Lakes residents. So please continue to submit your high resolution Jpeg photos to Image Up, the publisher at sunlakesnews@yahoo.com. 18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2019 | Sun Lakes Advisory Committee Reports We are happy to see more Advisory Committees submitting articles about the important work they are doing in Sun Lakes. Our goal is to have all active Advisory Committees share their news here each month. Thank you in advance for everyone's participation! golf Advisory October is a beautiful month for all outdoor activities and especially golf. If you have waited for cooler weather to be on the course, now is the time to be there. With the continuing work on holes 14, 15, and 16, you may still experience some hole closures but please bear with the director of golf (Al) and the golf course superintendent (Mark). They have been extremely busy with this project. Please give them a thumbs up for all they do. Recently an out-of-bounds rule option was adopted. Here is the verbiage for this option. If you have questions, check with the pro. Instead of the player returning to the spot of the previous shot in the event of a lost ball or a ball out of bounds, the player can take a drop in the nearest spot of the fairway (within two club-lengths of the edge of the fairway), no nearer the hole than where the ball crossed the OB line, with a two-stroke penalty. The same local rule applies to a lost ball, with the player able to drop in the fairway across from where the previous ball is estimated to have come to rest. Keep in mind, it's a two-stroke penalty under the local rule. If a player sends a tee shot out of bounds and proceeds under this local rule, they will play their fourth shot after dropping near the edge of the fairway (many amateurs casually throw down a ball and say they are playing their third from the new location, ignoring rules about stroke and distance). This is equitable to a player taking a stroke-and-distance penalty, then finding the fairway with the third shot from the tee. The next shot from the fairway would be the fourth. See you on the green!
