The Sun Lakes Tennis Club supports an active lifestyle for our residents. You can be confident that the club's hefty activity schedule will bring many opportunities for participation throughout the fall. Club members are grateful to Debbie and Nick Caputo for organizing our first Saturday-of-the-Month Mixers, beginning this month. They volunteered to take this responsibility, following the good work of Mary Wilkie and David Nethercott. The next mixers will be Oct. 5, Nov. 2 and Dec. 7. Free skills clinics are offered from 8 to 8:30 am, prior to the 8:30 am mixer. Where you will hone your skills, followed by congenial mixed doubles. Each October, members of the Tennis Club are invited to attend the Oktoberfest Mixer & Dinner. This year's event is scheduled for Oct. 19 with the mixer beginning at 5 pm and the dinner at 6:30 pm at the South Clubhouse. This annual event provides members with tennis, food and conversation and is always a favorite among members. The Men's Doubles Championship is rescheduled from September to Oct. 4, 5, and 6. The entry fee is $10 per team and there will be a dinner ($5 pp) on Fri., Oct. 4 after the matches. The annual Women's Doubles Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 25 – 27. Our Sun Lakes tournaments always attract a great crowd of tennis enthusiasts. Members Sally Jo and Steve Schwartz manage Friday Night Lights and Michele Walter organizes World Cup Tennis. Participants enjoy friendly competition that is focused on playing tennis with friends. When we have fun while playing sports we tend to remain involved in athletic programs that help us stay physically active. Each monthly event is followed by a potluck dinner that provides spectators and players with friendly company and delicious food. Put a pin on your calendars for the Turkey Shoot on Nov. 23 at 10 am. Come to the South Clubhouse to enjoy the fun and win prizes. The next Quarterly Meeting is on Dec. 15 at 5:30 pm, followed by the holiday party. It's not too late for you to become a member and participate in monthly events. Just drop your name, phone number and email address, along with your $10 membership fee, into the box at South Clubhouse.
