70 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2019 | Friends we will miss Christopher Eugene Kemper met the Lord Sunday, August 4. He was surrounded by his Cita, close friend Steve Fischer and his brother Gene. Born July 22, 1952 to Gene Sr. and Carol Kemper. Chris spent most of his life working as a chiropractor in Chico, CA. His professional accomplishments were many including publishing scientific papers, speaking internationally and design of orthopedic mattresses and pressure relieving cushions. Chris enjoyed spending time with friends and family golfing and fishing at Lake Almanor. Chris is survived by his wife Cita, son Aaron and brothers Gene (Joyce) and Eric. Niece Cali June and nephew John (deceased). Harry Lewis Knick arrived in Heaven in the early morning hours of August 1st at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital surrounded by his wife and children. Harry was born on December 2, 1935 to Earl and Elenora Knick in Wood County, West Virginia. Harry and Joyce met on a blind date in 1954 when she was 15 and he was 18. They were married two years later on August 11 in Lorain, OH and soon moved west to San Bernardino, CA. After 34 years of service, Harry retired from the US Postal Service where he was Vehicle Maintenance Manager in Redlands, CA. Once retired, the first priority for Harry and Joyce was to embark on a six-month road trip in their motorhome. Harry and Joyce loved traveling, camping, fishing, and Nascar. When the family wasn't desert camping or at the races, they were barbecuing in the backyard or swimming in the doughboy (above ground) pool. Harry was a Past Master of Damascus Lodge #648 and a current member of Phoenix Rising Masonic Lodge #178. Harry and Joyce became Sun Lakes residents in 2007 and were faithful members of LifeSpring Christian Church in Calimesa, CA. Harry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce, and his daughters Betty JoAnn Knick of Banning, CA, and Janice Earlene Black of Beaumont, CA, his son Gary Lewis Knick (Elaine) of Cherry Valley, CA, and his sister, Betty Rickard of West Columbia, WV. Harry had four grandsons, two granddaughters-in-law, eight great-grandchildren, and was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first great-great-grandchild due in September. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, E. Robert (Bob) Knick of Haddam, CT, his brother Wilbur (Bill) Knick of Lorain, OH, and his sister Peggy JoAnn Rea of Lorain, OH. Kenneth (Ken) Parker passed away August 8, 2019 after a long illness at the age of 73. Ken was born in England and came over on a ship as a young boy with his mother. He was raised in Covina and graduated from Charter Oak High School then joined the Marine Corp. He married and had one son Kenneth Jr. After divorcing he met his second wife Sharon (Sherry) at a PWP dance. Sherry and Ken moved to Sun Lakes after retiring. She was a Collection Manager for a school credit union and he retired from the Sheriffs Department. Ken loved to play tennis before his hips gave out then took up poker. He and Sherry traveled from state to state, casino to casino having a good time playing Texas Hold'em. The biggest part of Ken's life was his dogs. After poodles Cricket and Moby had to be put down, we got two more poodles, Rusty and Sonny. I like to say, "these dogs are the best trained dogs in Sun Lakes," he trained them well. The love these dogs had for Ken was incredible and he felt the same way about them. They miss him so much. There is no way to describe Ken's sense of humor. He was so quick with the jokes and ad libs. Ken's funny personality will be missed — the jokes have stopped! George Snopek passed away suddenly August 4, 2019. He was 90 years old, born in Budapest, Hungary July 31, 1929. George is survived by his wife Susan. George was a trained musician by the Hungarian Music Academy playing classical music, but he passionately loved jazz. He played classical music on the clarinet. His career was interrupted by the communist dictatorship. After the 1956 Hungarian revolution George escaped with his wife and six-year-old son George Jr. After arrival to the USA where his family was sponsored by Cleveland, George worked for seven months in the Ford Motor Co. He moved to Los Angeles and worked as a studio musician. He also had a side occupation as an Insurance Broker. He and Susan suffered tragedy in their life when their 45-year-old son passed away. In 2003 George and Susan moved to Sun Lakes where they were very happy. They had many friends, loved to play golf, bocce and bridge. He participated in the Follies for years which he really enjoyed. His wife misses him terribly as do his friends and family. Audrey Vaughn was born August 31, 1930 in Boston/Hyde Park, Massachusetts and passed away on September 1, 2019. She was 89 years old. Audrey was always proud of her career as a school bus driver and also a trainer of bus drivers. She and her sister Alma, (also a Sun Laker) were regular Bingo players. Audrey leaves behind three sons, Gary, Randy and Steven, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Audrey also leaves behind two sisters and a brother.
