| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2019 | 3 From the President's Desk By Sandra Moyer Fall has arrived and the trees and beautiful fall flowers throughout Sun Lakes is a sight to behold. I hope many of you got to take the tour of the Golf Course last month. This was an opportunity for those who do not play golf or do not live on the course to see its beauty and hear about the course history. I want to thank Doug Swenson for once again leading these tours and making it informative as well as enjoyable. The budget process is still in progress. Again, thank you to those who have attended the open meetings. The Board is still looking at the Food & Beverage department, golf rates and assessment fee. We anticipate our HOA dues to increase somewhere between three and six percent. The final figure will be announced at our October open session. The Main Clubhouse Refresh is moving along. The lobby is done other than getting new furniture delivered. The Ballroom will be completely done by Oct. 4. The Restaurant will be closed Oct.28 through Nov.22. The Restaurant will be open in time for Thanksgiving. Please remember that the Sandwedge will be open during this time. The Sandwedge will be closed from Nov.25 through Dec.6. Again, the Restaurant will then be open to serve you. The south wing will be closed Dec.2 through Jan.3. The Board and management thank you for your patience and flexibility during this process. There have been many questions regarding Turf Reduction projects. Mr. Mitchell, our General Manager, answered them in an open session, but I am giving this information again for those who do not attend or watch the meetings. • The total acres to be addressed in the future is unknown at this time. The original turf reduction plan for five years ago had 58.4 acres on the Championship Course to be removed. The last project involving turf reduction is on Championship Course Holes 14-16 as part of the drainage project. The Board will be evaluating future turf reduction in the fall. Then the Board will hold community outreach meetings to discuss future projects. • The Exec Course areas have been designed by Artistic Maintenance. • Plants were selected by the designers. The Board makes final decision on the plant palette, after discussing with pro, golf superintendent, supplier and residents. • Homeowners who reside in potential turf reduction areas can write to the Board and attend Town Halls to give input. • It is unknown at this time if future turf reduction will be on an annual ballot. • Some turf reduction areas would be maintained by onsite staff or contracted labor. • Some ground cover was in the design as the plants will grow and cover some of the ground. • Dirt will be controlled with water application during the installation process. Also, as the wind blows specifically from the east of Sun Lakes, it is impossible to control all dust. • The total 58.4-acre project has not been authorized for proposals at this time. • Cost of labor, water, maintenance versus water savings (include ROI) will be dependent on how many acres are chosen to have turf removed. Once this is determined, this information will be part of the planned community outreach meetings. Once the Board of Directors decides on the timing of the outreach, the community will be notified. I hope I have answered many of your questions. We have so many factors that impact the Board's decisions on any topic. So, it may appear to you, that we are not responding, or changing things abruptly, but that is not the case. We too must depend on information given to us from the experts and received in a timely fashion, so we can investigate and make the appropriate decision. I guarantee you the Board has your interest at heart. We are residents too!
