44 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | OCTOBER 2019 | Coming to the Friendship Club on Oct. 13 will be Darren Dowler, an 'A' class one-man variety show. Dowler was the award winning voice for Paul Revere and the Raiders, a singer with Righteous Brothers' Bill Medley, a member of The Lettermen, and an original guitarist with The Backstreet Boys. He was dubbed "The Greatest Singing Impressionist in the World" by In Focus Magazine. He appeared in the blockbuster films Hancock with Will Smith and Eagle Eye with Billy Bob Thornton, and over 20 more films and television shows. Dowler can currently be seen as the star of Rock and Roll the Movie on Amazon Prime, and as Reverend Billy Graham in the feature film Palau. Tickets for all shows are $20 for members, and $25 for non-resident guests. Doors open at 6 pm, and the show begins at 7 pm. The Friendship Club Yiddish Culture Club This month, the YCC welcomes the new year 5780, as its members and guests celebrate the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, which commemorates the creation of the world. Rosh Hashanah also marks the start of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection and repentance, culminating in the holiest day, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. On Wed., Oct. 2 at 6pm (a week earlier than we usually meet), we will enjoy a celebratory New Year's dinner in the South Clubhouse. Catered by Thomas Caterers, the menu includes such traditional foods as gefilte fish, chicken matzah ball soup, challah, roast tri-tip and roast chicken, veggies, roasted potatoes with onions, and honey cake. Please BYOB. Special entertainment for the evening will be dancers from the Shilo Messianic Congregation of Calimesa, who performed to rave reviews at last year's Chorale holiday performance.
