10 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | OCTOBER 2019 | Emergency preparedness committee The Great Shakeout Presentation and Barbecue will be at noon on Thurs., Oct. 17 in the Lodge Ballroom. Each year, millions of Americans participate in the The Great Shakeout. Here at Four Seasons, the Emergency Preparedness Committee and our Four Seasons CERT will provide our residents with short presentation on how they can very simply and inexpensively make their house their fortress in the event of an earthquake, and how to prevent your household goods from injuring you. Residents will learn what to do when the ground starts shaking. Although you think you know what to do, you will find out that many of the old procedures have been changed and updated as they didn't work. Furthermore, you will learn what to do after an earthquake, and what NOT to do. Additionally, you will learn how CERT volunteer first-responders will respond to the incident to help you. After the presentation, we will have a barbecue on the Plaza. It's free. While there is limited seating on the patio and we will have bottled water, bring your own chair if you have one and the beverage of your choice. Meet your neighbors, your CERT members and join us at the barbecue. The barbecue is free, however, please RSVP to the Lodge at (951) 325 8188 so we know how much food to get. See you on Oct. 17 in the Ballroom, and later on the Plaza. The summer months are stressful on our plants and turf. Your Landscape Committee volunteers identify "stressed" areas on their monthly surveys of their assigned areas. They report back to Maria Donti at the Lodge and Artistic Maintenance. Efforts are made to address the "stressed areas" as soon as possible. Even with this, when it's over a hundred degrees for many days, it is challenging to keep up with the stressed areas. We are appreciative of the residents who call, write a note or come to our monthly meeting, to identify what they see as an area needing attention. Thank you for taking your time and contributing to our "premier" community landscaping. Hopefully, we are past the heat of the summer months and moving into cooler weather. This provides an opportunity to do additional planting and/or turf maintenance that cannot be done in hot weather. This month we focus on two areas that you might drive by, but not necessarily notice. The first area is of Ligustrum hedges that are planted along the west side of Four Seasons just north of Player drive. As you enter the gate, you'll notice that the hedge (when it reaches maturity) will be from Player, to the 6th hole "black" tee box of the golf course, and then again from the tee box to the back of the first home on Eagle Lane. The hedge provides an aesthetic boundary between our community and the golf course. The hedge will also help with erosion control with the basin that often is full of water when it rains. The second area is the parking lot at Four Seasons Lodge. The "islands" among the parking spaces have a mixture of trees and plants. The trees provide desired shade for our cars in the summer months, so that our cars are not so hot, when we re-enter them from our business or leisure activities at the Lodge. Recently a new crepe myrtle tree was planted at the northeast end of the parking lot. When it reaches its maturity, it also will help provide beautiful flowers and additional shade to the parking lot. The Landscape Committee meets the first Wednesday of the month at 1 pm at the Lodge. Residents are welcome to attend. Landscape Committee
