| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | OCTOBER 2019 | 13 Welcome to your Four Seasons library. We have been pleased to have so many new hardbound books donated lately. They are fantastic and current! A resident just checked out Where the Crawdads Sing yesterday. Do come up and take a close look at what is there. At present a lot of books are checked out. We are waiting for Before We Were Yours to be returned. Three copies are out. Please check to see if you have a copy. Sue Corum and I want to give our special thanks to Marilyn and Steve Anderson here in Four Seasons. They were in the process of donating their books and wanted to see if Four Seasons could use any. Sue and I made a visit to their lovely home and we now have several books in the non-fiction section that revolve around "Historical Military Conflict." They are books on Korea, World War I and World War II. History is important. Both my husband's father and mine served during those times and the wars were part of our family life. I want to remind you that you may go to the front desk for help in reaching that top shelf! We do have a book "easy reach" hanging on the left hand wall for reaching that high. I have somehow managed to pull books down on top of myself using it so do feel free to spot a taller person and ask for a favor. How can it be possible to be wishing Four Seasons a Happy Halloween? Though we don't have little trick or treaters, my house certainly has ghouls in it during October! And what a great opportunity to buy a SCARY mystery fiction book and then donate it to the library. Hard to get in the mood yet as it's 100 degrees today. We do write our articles one month in advance. Our committee is comprised of volunteers living in Four Seasons who enjoy reading and have a desire to keep our 55+ library in order. We know you want to help but we find books that are not alphabetical or non-fiction in fiction, etc. Just leave everything for us even if it's so overflowing that you are sure you should help. Our magazine rack holds three months of donated material. Please bring, August, September, and October at this time. Our magazine rack has been really full lately. Thank you for your donations and for returning what you borrow. Did you notice the cabinet at the Lodge honoring two of our very talented Four Seasons authors? Lynne Spreen and Jim Hitt. The library committee has so enjoyed having all our Four Seasons authors present their work for you. We are planning on making space for all authors work, regardless of date, in the coming months. Certainly Lynne Spreens Dakota Blues series is wonderful to read from the first book. I so hope you were able to attend George L. Gurney's author talk. His first book in the Alan Wang series, A Counterfeit Conspiracy, was a fantastic read. His main character is part Chinese and part Samoan and a detective. All the elements are there — love interest, murder, and even horse smuggling but without the gore that is so prevalent in todays' books. We have Mr. Gurney's books in our paper back section. Look up George on amazon as he is a VERY diverse author. I have also read the amazing The Water Jar. I think you will add him to authors you want to read. We are so happy that the rules of "keeping the door open," and not eating in the library are being followed. Most important is NO MEETINGS in the library. Our committee works in there as a group but it IS working. . Residents of Four Seasons we appreciate you and love hearing that you appreciate the hard working volunteers! Thoughts from Blair… "A peasant that reads is a prince in waiting." Walter Mosley, The Long Fall. Committee member Sue read The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware (hardcover), Ruth Ware's fifth novel was released in time for the Halloween season. There are plenty of creaking floorboards, eerie sounds at night and a creepy isolated mansion. The story revolves around Rowan Caine, a young woman looking to make a change in her life. She works at Little Nippers Daycare Center in London. While scrolling through the Internet, she comes across a posting for a nanny to two young children. The position is in Scotland and it seems almost too good to be true. Rowan applies, obtains an interview, and is hired. Within a matter of weeks, she finds herself sitting in jail accused of murdering a child. While she maintains her innocence, she must figure out just who is responsible for the child's death.
