From the President – Tom Moore: Wow. Here it is October already! Where does the time go? It seems like it was just yesterday we were looking forward to the warm (hot?!) days of summer, and now we're making our plans for the holidays. At our general membership meeting on Sept. 17 we presented a check in the amount of $2,628 to this year's fundraiser beneficiary, the Tahquitz High School Boys and Girls Golf Teams. One more thing, it's time to start thinking about tossing your hat in the ring. Elections for your Board of Directors will be upon us this November. According to Article IV, Section II, of the Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club By-Laws, your current elected board members: Tom Moore- President; Ron Hulme-Vice-President; Vivian Ceballos-Treasurer; and Chaz McManis-Secretary can NOT run for a third term unless, under Section V: The election committee is unable to nominate a candidate for a particular office. This means that we need you folks to step up and get more involved in the day-to-day affairs of your club. We'll be forming an election committee later this month. Until next time… fairways, greens, and two-putts From the Tournament Committee: You may sign up for golf at our prior Tuesday golf event or send an email to hemet4sgc@gmail.com . From the Handicap Chair – Melody Lewis: FAQ: posting as a Tournament (T) Q. What is the purpose of the "Tournament Score" procedure? A. To identify players who excel in competition well beyond their current USGA Handicap Indexes. Q. How should a player post a tournament score? A. The tournament score, when posted, should be identified by a "T." Q. What is the effect of a tournament score on a player's USGA Handicap Index? A. A player whose scoring record includes two or more tournament scores that are exceptionally (three or more strokes) lower than his or her USGA Handicap Index will be subject to a reduction in Handicap Index. Our club uses a computation service, so the adjustment is done automatically. After a Handicap Index has been reduced, the committee can further reduce or override the reduction of a Handicap Index. A USGA Handicap Index reduction for exceptional tournament scores is calculated at each handicap revision and may vary from revision to revision based on factors outlined in Section 10-3. Q. What qualifies as a "Tournament?" A. The committee in charge of a competition announces before play whether the competition will result in a "tournament score" when posted. Tournament scores are generally reserved for competitions that, in the judgment of the committee, are significant in the traditions, schedules, formats and membership of the club. From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: When is your ball considered in the hole on the green? Under the old rules the flag pin could not be in the hole when your ball got to the hole if you were hitting from the green, so the ball would usually drop into the hole. A ball, which was hit from off the green and came to rest between the flag pin and the edge of the hole, could be allowed to drop into hole by carefully removing the flag pin. Under the new rules, with people leaving the pin in when putting, you frequently have the ball coming to rest between the flag pin and the edge of the hole. The current rule is that if any part of the ball is below the edge of the hole, then the ball is considered in the hole and does not need to be allowed to drop into the cup. The regulation dimensions on the flag pin, the hole on the green, and the ball are such that a ball at rest between the pin and edge of the hole is going to have enough of it below the edge of the hole to be considered in the hole for scoring. 30 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | OCTOBER 2019 | We have a few people interested in playing horseshoes.
