24 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2019 Facilities Committee Privacy curtains have been installed in all of the restrooms at The Courts, Spa building locker rooms, and The Summit. Work will be started soon on repairs to the Potrero Guard House. The repairs will be done during off hours as much as possible so as to not interfere with business. The pool lift for The Summit has been delivered and will be installed. We tabled the purchase of bird spikes at The Courts pending new information from users and janitorial staff. Upgrading security cameras was discussed and more information was needed from the vendors. LED conversion for the pickleball and paddleball courts along with LED conversion for the ground lighting at The Lodge was also discussed and bids were reviewed. The bids will be sent back for more clarification. Bids were reviewed for slurry sealing in Area A and on Four Seasons Circle from The Summit to The Courts. After review the bid from NPG Asphalt was accepted. We meet in the RCN on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 am. We always welcome residents to join us and share their ideas and concerns. We currently have several positions open on the Facilities Committee for anyone interested in serving our community. ~ Gino Domico, Gdomico@gmail.com The residents of Four Seasons Beaumont need to make sure that they are fully stocked with emergency supplies at all times. You need to be prepared in your home and automobile. We will talk about how careful preparation can prevent danger and discomfort. Preparation is the art of keeping supplies full so that your shelves do not resemble Old Mother Hubbard's cupboard. The hurricane that skirted Miami reminded us of the importance of fuel in your vehicles. Other things to check are your food and water, batteries, propane, medications, and pet supplies. The time to make preparations is before you need them. In the case of Miami, a run on gasoline left 53 percent of all of the gas stations without fuel after only half a day. The Florida Highway Patrol had to escort fuel tankers on their deliveries. You might become stranded without a full tank of gas. If you wait too long to evacuate you might be idling away your fuel in a traffic jam. Water is another crucial resource. You need at least three gallons per person per day. You should have a supply in your car and at home. If you wait for an emergency the stores may be closed and others may have empty shelves. You cannot rely on the nearest Target or Walmart for your water needs. Their stock changes from day to day. There was a case where people delayed their water purchases only to come back the next day and find that FEMA had bought out the stores' complete inventory overnight. The Red Cross has been known to do the same thing. Make sure that you have plenty of water and rotate it every six months. Propane will only help if you have a propane barbecue. Having a barbecue on hand will prevent you from eating too many Meals Ready to Eat (MREs). You will need batteries for your flashlights and enough medicine on hand to meet your needs. Do not forget your pets. They will need food, snacks, a dog bed, and possibly a pet carrier. Keep your car full of gas and plenty of water in your vehicle and at home. Check your propane barbecue monthly and restock if necessary. Being prepared can make an emergency less of a pain and merely a minor inconvenience. The Four Seasons Beaumont Emergency Preparedness Committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 10 am in the RCN Conference Room. The next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 15. ~ Mike Mendoza, srmendoza@verizon.net Emergency Preparedness Committee
