FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2019 39 COMPUTER & TECHNOLOGY CLASS On a rather warm August morning many of our hikers decided it was better to stay home in the air conditioning rather than a hike in Forest Falls high temps, so on this day we were a small, but nonetheless determined, group of hikers. Given the low numbers and forecast temps, we decided to hike Barton Flats area up to Jenks Lake. The lake surface is around 7,000 ft. From experience on a previous hike, we parked close to the sign- posted trail head and set off up the not-too-steep ascent through mostly the shade of the dense tree cover. On arrival at the lake, unlike other times in the summer, the kids were back in school and the surrounding area was very quiet with the sound of casting by fishermen around and on the lake, some floating in some interesting chair-like inflatable devices, where one's legs hang in the water. Very refreshing, I would imagine. The lake was so calm it could have been Mirror Lake, the surface broken only by the many fish breaking the surface… some actually caught. Our small group took a pleasant stroll around part of the lake where we met two hikers who were on their way to Four Seasons to meet friends. They joined us making us a group of seven. We all returned back down the trail, followed by lunch at a local restaurant — a perfect end to a perfect morning's hike. Last month, several residents found themselves breathing a sigh of relief after hearing the sage advice of Norbert "Bob" Gostischa. Bob, after a successful career in banking, has dedicated his retirement years to educating the computer-using public on how to protect their devices; and has become what he calls an Avast! evangelist. In his position as IT Security Expert for Avast! Software, maker of one of the world's most trusted antivirus programs, Bob educates the public on how to protect their computers from hackers, thieves, and spies. If you missed our class, you can experience some of Bob's presentation by visiting his blog and YouTube Channel. And, if you are interested in learning more about computer technology, join us Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 10 am in the RCN. ~ Larry Workman A small group of hikers at Jenks Lake
