Village Line Dancers have two parties a year where we have our instructor come out and join us for dinner and lead us in dance routines. For our summer party, we went all Western music and we turned Abravanel Hall into a Honkytonk! It was attended by over 50 members of all levels of line dancing. We had a great time dancing to what have become our favorite Western routines such as Going Down to the Honkytonk. See videos at The OHCC Line Dancing Club on OceanHillsCountryClub.com, select "Recreation," scroll down to "Club," then select "Village Line Dancers." Where else can you dance to such lyrics as the only place you might see my name is on the wall "for a good time call?" I'm a local legend on Friday night then a Pabst Blue Ribbon by a neon light. Check the OHCC weekly calendar for any changes, but normally scheduled classes are in Abravanel Hall at these times: Beginners - Thursdays 2:30 - 3:30 pm • Intermediate - Mondays 12:30 - 2 pm • Advanced - Tuesdays 10:30 am - noon. Come check us out! It's a great workout for the mind and body. Observe a class or pay and participate in one or two classes before joining. Dues are $10 per person, per year and $5 for each class. | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2019 | 19 Village Line Dancers Village Squares "Are you a girl or a boy?" Seems like a strange question, but it can be heard at many of our square dances. In order to be sure that all of our members get a chance to dance, many of our women have learned to dance what was traditionally the "boy's" steps. They can whip out a big "BOY" pin and instantly change roles. We celebrated the 100th birthday of one of our favorite members, Paul Steinberg on Sept. 11. Though he did have to give up square dancing a couple of years ago, he is still going strong. On Oct. 30, we will open our doors to all of our local square dance clubs for our annual Halloween spooktacular, called by Ken Bower. The Hall will fill with scary, funny and strange costumes on people who are ready to dance, eat a delicious spread, catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Please check out our website at http://ohccvillagesquares.wix. com/villagesquares. Along with a monthly calendar of events, there are also links to other club dances in the area, videos of all the dance moves the students are learning, pictures and videos of our club events, and even a video of Sam, the square dancing dog. Any questions, please contact our president, Pete Cannon at OHCCVillageSquares@gmail.com. Spicy Salsa: October's focus is Salsa, a popular Latin dance. You will pick up the basics in no time from our talented instructors. Line Dance Class: Mondays: Line dance is a fun way to exercise. The line dance class gives singles an opportunity to dance solo at the monthly dances and couples a chance to reinforce the steps without trying to lead/follow a partner. Tai Lien, OHCC resident and Club member, volunteers to teach our line dance class. We meet in Abravanel Hall from 4:45 to 5:30 pm. Free for Ballroom Dance Club members. Membership is $10, pay at the front desk. Lessons for Partners: Wednesdays: Ryan Lockhart and Danelle Newman, Area Dance Directors for Fred Astaire Dance Studios, teach our weekly classes in Abravanel Hall. Beginner classes meet from 3 to 4 pm and Intermediate classes are from 2 to 3 pm. It is $5 for club members, $7 for nonmembers, pay at the door Dance Parties, Second Friday of the Month: Our August dance celebrated the Aloha spirit. Guests wore their favorite Hawaiian shirts and sun dresses. Guests celebrating birthdays and anniversaries took home lovely floral leis. Dancing to live music on our first-class Abravanel Hall dance floor is a treat you won't want to miss! Please put a check in the Ballroom Dance envelope at the front desk for $12.50/member and $15/non- members.
