28 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2019 | Papercrafting Club The Papercrafting Club offers classes in the creation of unique, handcrafted greeting cards. Few things bring more joy than finding a personalized card in the mail box. How easy would it have been for that person to have sent a text or email or even a mass produced card? Instead, our members design and make exquisite handmade cards using specialty papers, mixed-media, stamping and embossing techniques, etc. The end result is a dazzling, individualized greeting card. What an easy, yet profound way to show someone you're thinking of them! Classes are held in small groups, which meet once a week for approximately two hours in the Art Room of the Clubhouse. Volunteer group leaders provide class scheduling, guidance and encouragement to their individual groups. Club members take turns demonstrating a card making technique to the class. The technique presented is then used to make a card or practice a new technique during the class. Members provide their own basic supplies. A variety of art media, including inks, chalk, pastels and watercolor is used. Card types include birthday, get well, sympathy, note and thank you cards. TOTE (Think Outside the Envelope) class is a subset of the club and is a bit of a departure from creating the usual greeting cards. Lolo Kleeman and Karin Barnes are co-leaders of the class, which is held on Wednesday afternoons. Club members present the class of their choice. They share various types of crafting projects using paper. Past classes have included stencil art, paper baskets and flowers, Halloween haunted houses made of chip board, treat bags and holiday gift tags. Samples of items made recently during the class are shown in the photos. These include a Stationery Gift Pack, Luminaries and a wine glass tea light with a paper lamp shade. We hope you had a chance to see the exhibit of beautiful handmade cards in the Art Room. Rhonda Anchales, Cathy Andrusky, Mary Ann Barbee, Karin Barnes, Shellie Bean, Cindi De Weese, Kathy Kelsay, Lolo Kleeman, Jan Malone, Kathy Moskovitz, Kerry Peyton and Barbara Roe displayed their cards. Thanks to our talented card makers for sharing their lovely cards.
