40 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2019 | Founders Duplicate Bridge Friday Duplicate Bridge With more than four tables we play the Mitchell movement. When we have an even number of tables, we either skip a table at the halfway point or use the superior RELAY. Benno Rayhrer, the Founders Club president, explains the scoring using six tables as an example. "The relay Mitchell movement modifies the standard Mitchell movement and eliminates the skip. Every pair plays all rounds, all boards and all opponents. It avoids all previously described shortcomings. The relay is normally set up between table one and table six. These two tables share the same set of boards every round. A standby table is set up between table three and four. The standby table has no players but has one set of boards. Pairs move in the standard Mitchell fashion up one table after each round and boards move down one table including the standby table. The scores will be completely fair." If you are a current intermediate duplicate player, a rubber bridge player who wants to learn the duplicate game, or a former bridge player (college maybe?) or taking bridge classes here at OHCC, then come join us. We are a friendly bunch. We play every Tuesday at 6:30 pm (check in at 6:15 pm) at Abravanel Hall or the Mykonos Room. Player donation of $3 is requested. Please bring correct amount. Annual dues are $6. For partnership arrangements please contact Phyllis Skall, (858) 405-2684 or email pskall@yahoo.com. Please join us! We offer a Duplicate Bridge game that combines the superior scoring of Duplicate Bridge but also has the friendlier and non- aggressive attitude of home style Rubber Bridge. With Duplicate Bridge, your true opponents are the pairs that hold the same cards as you would rather than your opponents at the table. We are not an ACBL game and for that, we not only offer an extremely reasonable game price of just $2, but also give cash awards to the winners. If you are interested, please call John Gates at (760) 295-5885, the president of this bridge club, to see if this type of game might meet your expectations. We are relatively small and have anywhere from five to eight tables. The games are at 1 pm on the second, fourth, and fifth Fridays of the month in Mykonos. You do not have to join this club to play your first game, however if you decide to join the annual dues are $6. Bingo BINGO is back! Great payouts (up to $1,000), fun games, door prizes, and ice cream treats at the break are just a few reasons to come check us out. Our faithful players do all right! Just ask a certain someone who won five times last year, including one night when she won two games. Doors open at 6:30 pm and games start promptly at 7 pm. Cost is still $8 for 10 games. See you there. We will have BINGO on Oct. 19. Thanks to all from your BINGO staff!
