| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2019 | 9 Welcome to autumn. The library has a shelf dedicated to resident authors. Perhaps you would like to read an author you might know or even is your next door neighbor. Please speak to a librarian, and she will show you the many interesting books available. The librarians would like to kindly remind our members that reserve books have due dates. The fine for being overdue is 50 cents per day. More importantly, there is often a long list of people anxiously waiting their turn to read the book. Please be a thoughtful member. The library will be hosting a "Holiday Reading Afternoon" in the library for adults only on Dec. 1. Once again, the Readers' Theater group will donate their time as readers. The adult only readings have been very popular, so mark your calendar now. Sign ups at the desk will be required. Our own Nancy Bolton will be leading a book discussion on Nov. 16 at 1 pm in the Mykonos Room. The book under discussion is The Library Book. The library has several copies for check-out. Please see a librarian during check-out hours. The book can also be obtained from one of our local libraries and online. As was announced previously, if you are not a member and wish to become one, pay your $15 membership fee now. Doing so not only entitles you to check out any of our reserve books next year, but will include check out of any of our reserve books to the rest of this year! Such a deal! We also welcome our current members to drop off their member fee early to the library or the front desk. It is greatly appreciated. Dates to remember: Nov. 16 – Book discussion Dec. 1 - Holiday reading for adults A Dog Called Hope by Jason Morgan is the incredible story of a remarkable service dog who brought a devastated warrior back from the brink. Napal's story is of one funny, lovable dog's power to heal a family and teach a wounded man how to be a true father. Napal is an amazing dog with boundless loyalty who built bridges between his wheelchair-bound battle buddy and the rest of able- bodied humankind. It is how Napal gave a man's life true meaning. Humorous, intensely moving, and uplifting, Jason and Napal's heartwarming tale will brighten any day and lift every heart. Jason Morgan now works to raise the profile of service dog availability for wounded warriors and others, campaigns for disability awareness, competes in a variety of Paralympics sports, speaks at veteran events, and raises three teenage boys. "We are the only species on the planet, so far as we know, to have invented a communal memory stored neither in our genes nor in our brains. The warehouse of this memory is called the library." ~ Carl Sagan. Library Association OCTOBER BOOK BUYS A Dog Called Hope.........................................................
