12 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2019 | Garden Club All residents are welcome to attend our general meetings held on the second Wednesday of each month in Abravanel Hall beginning at 9:30 for refreshments and mingling. Stop at the greeters' table for a name tag and a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the beautiful plants that we give away each month. If you want to sign up for membership or for volunteering, stop at our hospitality table. Also, check out the sharing table outside the double doors by the stage. You may find that perfect plant to fill a spot in your garden. We will be accepting names for those of you who would like to serve on the board of our wonderful club. On Wed., Oct. 9, at our general meeting we have the privilege of having Gianna Crispell who is a Master Gardener with the San Diego Master Gardener Association. She will be sharing her vast knowledge and passion for gardening. After retiring from over 30 years in financial services, Gianna could finally devote more time to her lifelong passions of gardening, reading and baking. As an advocate of organic vegetable gardening and cooking since the early 70s, she expanded into California native plants and roses. In her first home she nurtured over 50 species of plants and trees. Now a member of California Native Plant Society, Gianna has been a docent four years for their annual garden tours and lectures on incorporating natives into a drought- tolerant landscape. Gianna will be advising us on gardening in shaded areas. Upcoming Events: The Garden Club will be hosting two workshops on holiday flower arranging conducted by David Root, one of our favorite presenters. They will be Nov. 11 and Dec. 14. The November workshop will provide you with a beautiful Thanksgiving arrangement and the December workshop will have you take home that special Christmas or Hanukkah arrangement. You can sign up for the workshops at the sign-up table during the meeting on Oct. 9. Participation will be limited so don't delay. "The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago.
