20 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2019 | Pet Lovers Club President Ellen Kippel encourages all PLC members to come to our Annual Board Meeting at 10 am Sat., Nov. 2, in the Men's Club Room. This is when members of the PLC elect our Board of Directors. The nominees are: Ellen Kippel, president; Dan Golembiewski, vice president; Dolores Dowdle, treasurer, and Karen Hastings, secretary. Please advise Ellen if you'd like to run for one of these offices. You must be a member of the PLC to vote. Membership fees are $6 per person and $10 per family. Checks may be put in the PLC envelope at the front desk. Service Dog? Psychiatric Service Dog? Emotional Support Animal? Therapy Dog? What are the differences? Which are covered under the ADA? Which ones must be legally allowed in: public spaces, restaurants, airplanes, "no pets allowed" housing, hospitals, OHCC buildings? Service Dog trainer Kathryn Waddell and her dog Krystal will explain these differences. Three OHCC residents will share the work done with their service, therapy, and emotional support dogs. Pet Lovers Club Yiddish Club Chai, Yiddish Clubbers! Summer is officially over and we are entering our season of reflection… a time to heal… a time to take an accounting of our lives, and a time to consider how we can improve ourselves, our nation, and our relations in the world. We will welcome our speaker, Dan Schwimmer, to our next meeting, Mon., Oct. 21, in Abravanel Hall. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Dan has a 40-year history with AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. He currently serves on the Local and National AIPAC Councils and meets regularly with members of Congress to lobby on issues related to the American-Israel relationship. He will be discussing current events in the Middle East… a huge topic with critical ramifications. I encourage you to come hear Dan speak about the Middle East and AIPAC's role in events. Please continue to pay attention to the news, as the more you know before Dan's talk, the more meaningful his talk will be. Also at the October meeting we will be presenting a collection of books bestowed upon us by the Oceanside Library for our enjoyment as our own lending library. You may select a book from the table in AB Hall, enjoy it, then bring it to our next meeting in December and exchange it for another. See you Mon., Oct. 21. Till then, gey gezunterheit! ~ Lainy
