FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2019 65
The word "bocce" comes from an Italian word meaning "to bowl." The
small white ball, called the "pallino," is thrown first to start the game. The
rules are simple —get your ball as close to the pallino as possible to score
a point. If more balls of the same color get close, these additionally score
points. Games are usually played to 12 points and two games usually take
about one and a half hours.
The Bocce Ball group is going through some changes. As of October,
I am the new President and Greg Stilson is the new Secretary. Thanks to
Mike and Jeannine for their years of service to the group. With the fall
weather, our hours are changing. The fall schedule is: Tuesdays, 9 am;
Wednesdays, 3 pm; Fridays, 3 pm. Happy hour will follow play on Fridays.
Bocce Ball is held at the Bocce Ball courts at the beautiful Summit with
views of the surrounding valley. Everyone is welcome. New players are
introduced quickly to the rules and best strategies. It is an easy game
where everyone can play requiring no specific skill or previous experience.
Playing is a lot of fun, win, or lose with a group of wonderful people.
If you are interested in learning the game, please join us. Any questions
please call me, Hank Negrete, at (909) 747-7087 or Greg Stilson at (951)
