From the President – Tom Moore: This is the time of year that we review the things that we are thankful for, so I thought l would take the opportunity to start the ball rolling: I'm thankful for my wife Bonnie, my three kids, my five grandkids, and my three great-grandkids. I'm thankful to live in a community like Hemet Four Seasons—the most tight-knit and caring group of people I have ever had the good fortune to know. And I'm thankful to you, the members and the board of directors of the Hemet Four Seasons Golf Club, for allowing me the honor of serving as your president for these past two years. It's been a hell of a ride, huh? It's time to begin our annual membership drive. We are looking for fun-loving golf enthusiasts to join our group of ladies and gentlemen for some golf, camaraderie, and most of all fun! We are a social club that happens to play (and enjoy) the game of golf in an atmosphere of friendly competition. We don't care what your skill level is, our members' handicaps range from a low of 4.3 all the way up to 40.4, with an average handicap of around 21. Handicap stroke adjustments make it possible for everyone to compete on a level playing field, so come one come all. You can pick up a membership application at the front desk at The Lodge, or send an email to our membership chairman, Bob Morriss at: bobmorriss@yahoo.com. Until next month: Remember, "GOLF" spelled backwards is "FLOG," so keep on floggin'. From the Tournament Committee: You may sign up for golf at the golf course prior to Tuesday's golf event or send an email to hemet4sgc@gmail.com by Monday noon. Schedule for November: 11-05 @ 8:00 Partners: Best Net Score Per Hole 11-12 @ 8:00 Individual: Low Net by Flight - Veterans Day Recognition 11-19 @ 8:00 Partners: Best Net Score Per Hole 11-26 @ 8:00 Team Stableford-Scramble – Turkey Shoot From the Membership Chair – Bob Morriss: We have one new (returning) member, Jim Seder. We now have 130 members. We're coming up on membership renewal time and everyone is reminded to NOT renew with SCGA and ONLY renew through the Hemet Four Seasons Golf Club. From the Handicap Chair – Melody Lewis: The World Handicap System goes into effect in 2020. Here's a few of the more important changes. 1. Under the current GHIN system, your Handicap Index is only updated twice per month, on the 1st and 15th. With the World Handicap System, you'll receive an updated Index the day after posting a score. 2. Tired of having a snowman on a par-3 ruin your round? The World Handicap System will have a maximum hole score of net double bogey in order to keep your score closer to your true playing potential. 3. We've all had a round (or 10) that would've been better if it wasn't raining or less windy or cooler or… you get it. The new system will consider the impact of daily course or weather conditions on each golfer's performance and adjust your handicap accordingly. 4. One of the goals of the World Handicap System is to introduce more golfers to the concept of utilizing a Handicap Index, especially golfers who are new to the game. As such, the maximum Handicap Index will raise from 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women to 54 for both men and women. From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: Anytime your golf ball is possibly lost or out of bounds, you should declare that you are hitting a provisional and then hit the provisional. If you do not hit a provisional and your ball is not found or is out of bounds, you are required to go back and hit from the previous spot from which you hit, taking a one stroke penalty. For our club play, we have a local rule which allows you to take two strokes and not have to go back to the previous spot. This local rule cannot be use during tournament play. Under the local rule, you can go from the estimated point where your ball was lost to the nearest edge of the fairway, no closer to the hole, and drop a ball. You will take two penalty strokes. If your ball is out of bounds, you will either go to the point where the ball crossed the boundary line and drop a ball or proceed on to the edge of the fairway and drop a ball. From the point you dropped the ball you can take two club lengths no closer to the hole. You will incur two penalty strokes. If you hit a provisional, you must play the provisional if it is found and not out of bounds. 30 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | NOVEMBER 2019 |
