| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2019 | 9 A Happy Thanksgiving to all! Dates to Remember: On Nov. 16 at 1 pm, Nancy Bolton will be conducting a book discussion in the Mykonos Room on The Library Book. The talk is open to all OHCC residents, but you must sign up at the front desk. The Library Book is available for checkout when the librarians are on duty. It is also available at book stores online. On Dec. 1, the Library Association in conjunction with the Readers Theater group will host an adults only "Holiday Reading Afternoon." This popular event is open to all OHCC residents. However, as space is limited, you must sign up at the front desk. November is "fine free month." If you have forgotten to return a library book on time, you can do so in the month of November with no fines due. Please look around your home for forgotten books or paperbacks and slide them into the book slot in the library so others may enjoy them. For those people who are not members of the library, we have a deal for you. Any new member paying the $15 membership fee now, will continue with membership through 2020. That is two months of free membership! The library does not purchase paperback books, but relies on donations. We gratefully accept your used paperbacks for our collection. The Library Association would like to thank Don Sanelli for his ringing endorsement of our beautiful library and even more beautiful librarians. His lovely letter can be found in a recent Observer. Thank you, Don! One of our recent and very popular book purchases is The Pioneers by David McCullough. McCullough is a Pulitzer Prize winning author who specializes in historical non-fiction. The Pioneers is about the settling of the Northwest Territories (now the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin). In 1788, the first group of pioneers set out from New England under the leadership of Revolutionary War veteran General Rufus Putnam. The Pioneers is a compelling story of these hardy people and the trials they faced. For you history lovers (and even if you are not), this is a great read. "Every problem that society has, the library has, too, because the boundary between society and the library is porous; nothing good is kept out of the library, and nothing bad." — Susan Orleans, The Library Book Library Association NOVEMBER BOOK BUYS A Better Man ..................................................................Louise Penny The Bitterroots .........................................................................C.
