Garden Club
All residents are welcome to attend the
OHCC Garden Club general meetings held
on the second Wednesday of each month
in Abravanel Hall beginning at 9:30 am for
refreshments and mingling. Stop at the
Greeters' table for a nametag and to pick
up a raffle ticket for a chance to win one
of the beautiful plants that we give away
each month. If you want to sign up for
membership or for volunteering, stop at our
Hospitality table. Also, check out the sharing
table outside the double doors by the stage.
You may find that perfect plant to fill a spot
in your garden.
The Garden Club will be accepting names
for those of you who would like to serve on
the board of our wonderful club. The board
meets monthly on the third Wednesday
of the month. If interested, contact Mary
Kay Murray at (909) 747-8748 or email at
marykay.murray@gmail.com.
Wed., Nov. 13 – General Meeting:
November's speaker, Susan Nessel, gardening
consultant, will be returning to speak to us
about transitioning our gardens to fall and
winter gardens. She has had a lifelong love
of gardening and has been with Armstrong
Nursery for the past nine years.
Susan has over 100 rose bushes on her
property and has had the interesting past
experience of being a trainer of dolphins.
Susan will advise us on how to best care
for and protect those perennials that we
love and help us choose wonderful annuals
and plants to accent our holiday homes and
gardens.
Upcoming Events: The Annual Garden
Club Holiday Luncheon and Fashion Show,
a favorite Ocean Hills event, will be held
in Abravanel Hall on Dec. 11. Our meal
will be catered by Prime Cut Catering,
and we will be enjoying an old fashioned
Christmas dinner with prime rib or turkey
and trifle for dessert. The fashion show will
be orchestrated by Shaunda Anaya of Teri
Inspired Resale Boutique, which supports
vocational training for adults with special
needs. If you have friends that may want
to share a table of 10, gather your checks in
the amount of $25 for members and $28 for
non-members. Or, just give your check to
the front desk and meet new friends.
We may think we are nurturing our
garden, but of course, it's our garden that is
really nurturing us. – Jenny Uglow
