Happy Thanksgiving to all from our staff. The Annual Toy Drive begins earlier this year, on the16th of the month and is hosted by our industrious Woodchucks. This mighty display sets the stage for all our holiday activities and the magic that happens, as the toys appear, gets everyone into the spirit of giving. With the Arts & Crafts Faire on the books for Sat., Nov. 23, it looks like the holidays are on their way. This seasoned Recreation Director can emphatically say, "You have got to be kidding me, where did the year go?" The decorated Lobby and Abravanel Hall trees will be going up towards the latter part of the month. The trees usually come from the Northwest, and it all depends on the weather, as to when the local nurseries will receive their shipments. The theme of the Lobby tree is a secret, each year it is a delight to see what is created by our own resident Bob Wong, and his elves. The Recreation Department Staff have done a good job in keeping the membership apprised of the upcoming events from month to month. The monthly calendar, the "Don't Miss Out" section, and the ongoing activity section gives everyone a clear view of what is coming next. The OHCC Living publications are posted on the website for residents to access and refer to. The 2020 reservation process continues and any organized group requiring space in the Clubhouse must submit their paperwork. Every year there are groups that are surprised that they are not on our master schedule. The private room rental requests will begin in January 2020. The Community Services Committee is sponsoring a discussion on the topic of Alzheimer's, a subject that so many of us have experienced with our loved ones. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive disorder that causes brain cells to waste away (degenerate) and die. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia — a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills that disrupts a person's ability to function independently. This discussion will include author, Susan Miller, who has written My Life Rearranged. Please join us on Wed., Nov. 14, at 4 pm. Light refreshments will be served. The Clubhouse will close at 5 pm on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve. This is so the staff can go home and enjoy their holiday. The Recreation Department will be hosting a New Year's Eve bash on Dec. 31, and the doors will be closed early, in preparation for the celebration. Now, it is time to say it again, "You got to be kidding me!" Hang on - here come the holidays, enjoy creating memories with family, friends and neighbors. Remember there is always room for one more at the table. Happy Thanksgiving!
