| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | December 2019 | 27 From the President – Tom Moore: Wow! We made it to the end of 2019. Before we close the books on this year, I have a few thoughts I'd like to share. First, I want to thank all the board members: Ron Hulme, Vice President: You did a stellar job as Veep, it's a tough job, but I knew you could handle it - Dilly Dilly. Thanks Ron. Vivian Ceballos, Treasurer: We got off to a rough start with the bank and all the hoops we had to jump through, but it all finally came together, and you have done a wonderful job. Don't put your pen away quite yet, we still have a few checks to write. Thanks Vivian! Chaz McManis, Secretary: I didn't fully appreciate what a difficult task it is to take the pandemonium of our monthly meetings and condense it down to a few succinct paragraphs until I had to do it a couple of times. You did a GREAT JOB! Thank you, Chaz. Elliot Yaeger, Tournament Chair: Thank you so much for stepping up and taking over the difficult job of Tournament Chairman half-way through the year. Your efforts made the transition seamless. Good job El, Thank you! Bill Barnes, Alternate Tournament Chair: Without your help, the Soboba tournament would have been a DISASTER! Thank you for answering the call! Bob Morriss, Membership Chair: Thank you for taking over the duties of membership chair when Elliot moved over to the Tournament Chair position. Thank you so much! Tom Johnson, Rules Chair: Great job keeping us up on all the new rules that went into effect this year! Thank you, Tom. Melody Lewis, Handicap Chair: You were a Bulldog in making sure that all members (myself included) were posting their scores in a timely manner. Fantastic job! Thanks Melody. Gary Sopata, Course Liaison: Excellent job working with the golf course management to improve course conditions. Thank you, Gary! Bonnie Moore, Social Chair: You arranged three banquets and four barbecues, along with all the food, beverages, and entertainment during the past three years, and I didn't hear a single complaint! Thank you and your committee for all that you have done! And most important, thanks to you, the general membership of the Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club for all your support and suggestions over the past two years. Without your input, we couldn't do what we do! Thanks again everyone! Happy holidays From the Tournament Committee: You may sign up for golf at the golf course prior to Tuesday's golf event, or send an email to hemet4sgc@gmail.com by Monday noon. From the Handicap Chair – Melody Lewis: As most of you already know the World Handicap System goes into effect Jan. 1. Golfers need to be aware that handicap indexes will be generated every day. Your scores will be evaluated with adjustments to your index based on daily playing conditions. This is why it is so important to post your scores on the day played. All golfers will have a "playing" handicap for competitions based on par of the course they are playing. The calculation for your handicap still takes into account the slope and course rating for the tees you are playing along with par for that particular course. Adjustments may apply in competition if par from a particular tee box is different from par from another tee box on the same course. Please remember, all indexes and handicaps are computer generated based on the scores you enter and the information recorded by the SCGA. Maximum score will no longer be based on ESC. Your maximum score for posting purposes will now be par + 2 strokes + the number of strokes (pops) you receive on that particular hole. Here are some examples: An 18 handicap would have a maximum of 6 on par 3's, (3+2+1), 7 on par 4's, (4+2+1) and an 8 on par 5's, (5+2+1). In this example, the player gets one extra "pop" on each hole due to an 18 handicap. A 36 handicap would post a maximum seven on the par 3's, an eight on the par 4's and a nine on the par 5's. They receive 2 "pops" per hole. An 8 handicap would most likely have a maximum of 7 (4+2+1) on a par 4 and an 8 on a par 5 (5+2+1) instead of the current maximum of double bogey. Remember, this is for posting only and you will still have to play the ball into the hole to be eligible in competitions. From the Rules Chair – Tom Johnson: Prior to the re-rating of the course by the SCGA, we treated the water which accumulated along the left side of fairway 1, fairway 9 and fairway 18 as casual water as a local rule. This meant that you would have a free drop when your ball landed in these areas. The water in these locations has led to the growth of vegetation which is now a penalty area. When your ball lands in these penalty areas you incur a one stroke penalty to move your ball laterally, no closer to the hole, for relief. Members frequently ask for clarification of the rules, particularly as a result of the major rule change this year. Please let me know of rules you would like discussed here in the Herald.
