60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2019 | Wow! Tennis at Sun Lakes is red hot! Congratulations to the 7.0 USTA Men's 65+ team for winning the Southern California Sectional Tennis Tournament in Claremont on Oct. 27. The team is invited to participate in the national tournament that will be held in Orlando, Florida in February 2020. Congratulations also go to Tammy Pronenko and Cathy Leogrande for winning the Sun Lakes Women's Doubles Championship. Tammy and Cathy faced Michele Walter and Sally Jo Schwartz in an exciting final match. After several shifts in momentum, Tammy and Cathy ultimately won. The Tennis Club's last quarterly meeting and Holiday Dinner-Dance is Dec. 15 at the South Clubhouse. The quarterly meeting begins at 5:30 pm, followed by cocktails at 6 pm and the dinner served at 6:30 pm. Music will be provided by Purple Sunset. The cost for the dinner and entertainment is $22.50 pp. Reservations and checks must be deposited in the tennis box at the South Clubhouse by Dec. 9. Anyone with questions should contact Michele Walter at (951) 845-2002. All tennis club members are welcome to attend the Holiday Dinner Dance and encouraged to join the fun and celebrate the end of this wonderful 2019 season. There are so many who contributed to the club's success in 2019. Among those contributing to the clubs success are Phil Hazelton, Pat Carter, and Daryl Barton who provided the free clinics each month that helped participants to improve their skills. Debbie Pritchett, Nick Caputo, Mary Wilkie, and David Nethercott shared responsibility for the Saturday mixers. Cathy Leogrande and Lori Hazelton supported the publication of the Tennis Club directory. Bob Walter supported the USTA Men's 55+ and 65+ teams in successfully reaching the Southern California Sectional Competitions. Sally Jo Schwartz and Michele Walter organized Friday Night Lights and World Cup Tennis to ensure club members had many opportunities for social tennis. Phil Hazelton, Sally Jo Schwartz, and Michele Walter organized the Sun Lakes championships. Bill Hendra contributed his cooking talents during the Mixed Doubles Championship. Jim Ball supported the annual Turkey Shoot. The club's officers, President Bob Walter, 1st VP Phil Hazelton, 2nd VP Jim Ball, Treasurer Steve Schwartz, and Secretary Jeff Mulqueen worked closely together on dinners, social events, and communications.
