58 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2019 | Another bocce year has come and gone! Now we look toward the new year and what it brings. The Winter Tournament begins the week of Jan. 13. Team entries must be in by Jan. 3. Bocce Club dues for the year need to be paid again. They are still $12 pp. We play on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (no Thursdays) in the winter, at 1, 2, and 3 pm. Hopefully these times will give us the warmest part of the day. Team entry cards can be found in the bocce cabinet. All teams playing will need to fill one out again with the start of the new year of bocce. And please, please give us a second choice of days if at all possible. By the way, on the back of the bocce cabinet you will find a schedule for 2020, showing the four bocce tournaments, when they begin and end, and when the playoffs are for each tournament. Check it out! On the back of our bulletin board, once the winter schedule is completed, you will find all of the teams and their phone numbers, all of the referees and their phone numbers and the Bocce Board members and their numbers. Depending on where there is room, the alternates and their numbers can also be found, in the event you need to call. Many team members have mentioned that some of their teammates don't want to play in the winter. Bundle up and get out of the house for an hour. It's not like we live in Minnesota, after all. The fresh air will be good for you. If you find yourself without teammates, call Dutch at (951) 845-0392. There will be others in the same boat and we may be able to hook you up with those others for the winter. Meanwhile have a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year! See you on the courts in 2020. Friends of Bocce Friday mornings, 9 am in the North Clubhouse. Cost is only $5 per week (or $20 per month). Tai chi (Tie-Chee) is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Originally developed for self-defense, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. The tradition of Tai Chi dates back to at least the 15th century in China, and the practice is based on the belief that balancing the opposite forces in the body (known as yin and yang) will encourage the flow of chi (energy) through the body to promote health. You may also find Tai Chi appealing because it's inexpensive and requires no special equipment. Tai Chi can be done anywhere, alone or in a group class. If you're looking for a way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi and join fellow Sun Lakers in developing strength in balance, stamina, and flexibility. Info., Dee Coughtry, (951) 381-4919.
