Woodchucks
Much like our cousin, the groundhog, annually returns to
Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the Woodchucks are back for the
holidays predicting joy for the kids of Camp Pendleton.
As you visit our Clubhouse Toy display, you will see the efforts of
the Woodchucks, the Sewing Club, and many artists that reflect a spirit
of giving that we hope will be an inspiration to all. The donation box
awaits you… allowing for the purchase of bikes, helmets and gift
cards for the older children at the base.
The pictures above are more samples of our display. The cradle
is from the artistry and craftsmanship of Woodchucks Jerry and
Carolyn Hollander. Their beautifully themed cradles and blankets
start with a fabric design representing Dr. Seuss, Mickey Mouse,
Noah, a Circus, or a Dreidel. They sew the fabric into a blanket and
hand-paint the design on the cradle. The result is an heirloom toy.
The high chairs are creatively built by Woodchuck extraordinaire
Mitch McCarroll. Then they are hand-painted by Woodchuck Holly
Radziwon, becoming a worthy piece of fine art which will bring joy
to a lucky girl.
The tractor was built by Woodchuck Tom Murphy, who created
some toys that feature the different woods that we receive each year
from cabinet companies and members. Our incredible Woodchuck
artist of all things tiny, Karen Long, has outdone herself with the little
farmer on the tractors… bib overalls, flannel shirts, a big smile, and
even a tiny straw hat!
From all the Woodchucks, have a blessed holiday, Christmas,
Chanukah.
Thank you for helping us spread the cheer to "those who so bravely
serve us."
