30 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2019 | We walk and hike every two weeks on alternating Thursdays and Fridays. The walk is typically one and a half to two miles on relatively level terrain. The hike is usually three and a half to four and a half miles with 200 to 500 feet of elevation gain. After the hike we go to lunch together for socializing and discussion of hike/walk. On Oct. 8 we had our General Meeting, Election of Officers and Annual Picnic. At the General Meeting the election of officers for our next year 2020 were as follows: Herb Holzman, President; Richard Halykind, Vice President; Darlene Fahey, Secretary and Tim Pentel, Treasurer. Due to the red flag warnings on the day of our hike to Lower Santa Ysabel Trail, instead we hiked Lake Calavera to the Volcanic Cap what a beautiful 360 degree view of our surrounding area. On Nov. 8 we hiked Miramar Lake and on Nov. 21 we hiked Mission Trails-Oak Creek Canyon. On Nov. 12 at the General Meeting there was a planning discussion for 2020 hikes. We hope to have the new schedule posted by December. Our Holiday Party is on Dec. 3. There will be dinner and dancing with music provided by H2. More information to follow. The schedule and any updated information will be posted on the web at: www.ohwh- club.com/walkers-hikers/schedule during the month. For each hike we meet at 8:30 am in the overflow parking lot by the Clubhouse and car pool to and from the hike. Passengers give the driver some cash for gas. Always bring water, a hat, sunscreen and sturdy shoes. Walkers and Hikers Genealogy Interest Group The Genealogy Interest Group is a group of individuals who want to find out about their heritage. Who were your ancestors, where they lived and what they did. The group provides tools to do your search and help in getting started or suggestions to the experienced to breakthrough a stumbling block to another generation. The Genealogy Interest Group meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 10 am to noon with a short presentation genealogical current topics and a help session answering questions the attendees have. We offer a second two hour period of individual help each month, date and time to be announced on the TAG calendar. We have available free on the computers in the lab for use of the residents, the World Explorer version of Ancestery.Com, a search engine for finding your ancestors. (Individual subscription about $100 a month.) We offer the Family Tree Maker program on several of the computers in the Computer Lab to catalog your family tree data and present your tree data. The coordinators are Dorothy Miller and Don Wirth. Help sessions will add Peggy Singh. Contact us at ohccgen@gmail.com The RV Club had a day trip at the end of September to the Leo Carrillo Historical Park. This was probably one of the most convenient day trips we have ever had. The park is only six miles from OHCC. There was so much to learn at the Leo Carrillo Historical Park that pertains to our local history and the days of ranching and movie stars living in our area. A very big thank you to Meddy Carso, VP Social, for organizing this fun event. Lunch was provided by Panera Bread Catering. Other news regarding trips: There were two pop-up trips during October. According to Skip Harvey, VP Trips, there were 14 RVs that went to Oak Glen and five RVs that traveled to Paso Robles and Pismo Beach to enjoy the wine festival and Jazz Jamboree. The next general meeting will be Tues., Jan. 28, in Abravanel Hall. Social time starts at 7 pm, and business meeting starts at 7:30 pm.
