12 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2019 | Garden Club Our regular monthly meeting will be replaced in December with an OHCC favorite – the OHCC Garden Club Holiday Luncheon and Fashion Show. Woohoo! ALL OHCC residents and their guests are invited to the Annual Garden Club Holiday Luncheon and Fashion Show on Dec. 11. The lunch will be served at noon in Abravanel Hall. The cost is $25 for members and $28 for non-members. If you would like to attend, please bring a check, payable to OHCC Garden Club, to the Clubhouse front desk and ask them to place it in the Garden Club envelope. You may reserve a table for 10 by placing checks in one envelope with the table name on the memo line. The luncheon will be catered by Prime Cuts and served family style. We will be enjoying an old fashioned Christmas dinner with prime rib or turkey, everyone's favorite scalloped potatoes, all the fixins' and, something new, English trifle for dessert. Feel free to BYOB as we will have wine glasses on the tables. Prime Cuts has become an OHCC favorite as the food is delicious. The fashion show will be orchestrated by Greg Snaer of Teri Inc., which supports vocational training for adults with special needs. Our own OHCC residents will be modeling the clothing and we all know what fun that is. So join us to bring in the holiday and share the wonderful spirit of our OHCC community. Coming Attractions for 2020 Sat., Jan. 4, 2020 is Do Dues Day at The OHCC Clubhouse. This is your opportunity to renew your Garden Club membership for 2020. You may also bring your check for $15, payable to the OHCC Garden Club to the front desk at the Clubhouse and ask for it to be placed into the Garden Club envelope. We always welcome new members to our wonderful club. Jan. 8, 2020 General Meeting. We are very pleased to have a presentation by Greg Alder, a Master Gardener since 2012. Greg will be speaking to us about the collection and use of rainwater in our gardens (we will be so happy to see and hear the rain, won't we?). He will also teach us how to use that household grey water that we waste every day. Yiddish Club Chai, Yiddish Clubbers! Yes! Dan Schwimmer, our October speaker was excellent. Knowledgeable, well-informed, and clear- talking about current events in the Middle East. The two tables we had for book display were quite full and people were able to take home an armful to read and return at the December luncheon. We voted on the 2020 Yiddish Club board and happy to announce that the vote was unanimous. Installation of officers will be at the December luncheon. Officers to be installed are: Co Presidents: Elaine Massei and Batia Cagan; Co-Veeps: Debbie Garey and Itamar Cagan; Confirmed as Treasurer is Arnie Wallins; and Joann Bush continues as Secretary. Don Kent and I will serve on the board as past officers. We are fortunate to have a large committee working on Programs for 2020: Katherine Backman, Joann Bush, Batia and Itamar Cagan, Debbie Garey, Harv Jaffe, Kaye Preston, Sandy Marin, Carole Silverman, Laraine Steinman and Arnie Wallins. What a year it will be! The luncheon on Dec. 22 will feature food from Katella Deli, chopped liver, three kinds of meats, rye bread, coleslaw, latkas and applesauce, all topped with their yummy rugulach for dessert. Cost is $30 for members and $35 for guests with the cost subsidized by your YC. Be sure to check with friends and reserve the date on your calendar. We'll also enjoy the terrific talent of comedian Shalom Sherman. With the December luncheon being the last event planned under the presidency of Lainy and vice-presidency of Don, we are looking forward to celebrating with delicious food and fun entertainment, and are excited about the coming year! Remember, you can pay your $10 dues now (put your check in the envelope at the Front Desk, payable to OHCC Yiddish Club) for 2020 and pay member price for the deli luncheon. Special thanks to Tom Murphy for making two large dreidels for display in the lobby at Chanukah, AND 22 small dreidels for kids at Camp Pendleton. Thanks to Jaime Albano for creating the lettering stencils, and for Bonnie Roth's painting skills for the lettering. We are including the rules for playing dreidel with each small dreidel. Have fun kids! Meanwhile, gey gezunterheit! Lainy
