20 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2019 | The Wine Tasting Club had its annual election of officers on October 10, and combined it with a fall party, with a Western theme. The Wild West Wine Party was held in Abravanel Hall and over 200 club members and guests attended. Tables were decorated with Western-style centerpieces made by club volunteers. Dinner was catered by Hunter Steakhouse (Oceanside) and we had a barbecue buffet with tri-tip sirloin, barbecued chicken breast, some really nice mashed potatoes, other vegetables, Caesar salad, and afterwards some serious desserts. Wine was provided by the club as part of the party. We had Leaping Horse Cabernet and Pinot Grigio at each table, and members were welcome to bring their own. Western music was played by Cut to the Chase, and they are very versatile and played other kinds of music as well. The Wine Tasting Club officers for 2020 will be: President – Bruce Brady; Vice President – Mike Badovinac; Treasurer – Tim Rogers; Secretary – Callie Dean. Dues for 2020 will be only $12 (from $14), so at least one cost is going down. If you want to beat the rush on Do Dues day, you can renew for next year by dropping off your check at the front desk, in the Wine Club envelope. If your wine tasting group meets on a day or at a time that is not convenient, you might consider contacting the Wine Club Membership Chair, Pat Hawley, and ask about changing to a different group. As we approach the holiday season, with the Wine Tasting party already having happened, many of the groups within the club will be having either a December tasting or simply a party at a member's home to celebrate the season. Sometimes we don't consume all the wine we buy for a particular tasting, and we save the unopened bottles for later use, and this would be an example. Also, the Wine Tasting Club bought a bit more wine than needed for the big club- wide October party, and that will be distributed among the groups for use at their December tasting or party, along with some Prosecco for each group. The Ocean Hills Wine Tasting Club has monthly tastings in members' homes. Each tasting has a theme, and around five varieties of wine are poured. Wine Tasting Club A very special program has been planned for our upcoming December meeting. The Photography Club meets at 1 pm on the third Thursday of each month in the Ladies Club Room and our December meeting will be on the 19th. Mark your calendar now as we will be holding our annual Holiday Party. There will be delicious food and drinks provided by the club plus a surprise presentation. We will be treated to a preview of all the beautiful photographs submitted by club members for the new photography exhibition to be installed in the Clubhouse early next year. In addition to seeing this slideshow of all submissions we will get the first viewing of the photos that have been selected for the exhibit. The theme of the new exhibition is "Reflections" and we can't wait to see what this group of talented photographers have submitted. There were 10 photos selected from the submissions by expert outside judges and will hang on the wall across from the Computer Room for about 18 months, so this preview is sure to be something special to see. We encourage all members of the Photography Club to attend this holiday get-together. Share some good food, chat with old and new friends with a common interest and see a wonderful collection of some of our club member's best work. The annual dues are $8, paid at the front desk, will get you membership for the rest of this year and all of 2020 plus an invitation to this very special holiday meeting.
