The holidays have arrived earlier this year. With Halloween behind us, holiday décor was stocked on store shelves, literally, overnight. The Clubhouse set up for the Woodchucks Annual Toy Drive on Nov. 15. We expect OHCC to make magic happen for the Camp Pendleton families this year, by bringing unwrapped toys to the Clubhouse. Our thanks to those that remember the teenagers with gift cards and gifts that are age appropriate. Some generous person always remembers to sneak several bicycles in, usually at night, with no desire to be recognized. One year a resident asked a staff member to go shopping for toys because they were unable to perform the task. Boy, did that staff member have fun granting their request. Another year, a local agency was chosen, but no one had picked up the toys on the day of Christmas Eve. So, at the last-minute frantic calls were made to find an alternate recipient. The local Salvation Army on Lake Boulevard had 120 children coming that night, and they had run out of toys the night before. It was a sight to behold, with over six staff cars 'stuffed to the rafters' but we got the job done. This is the magic that happens when we all work together! The Veterans Day Tribute, this last month, eloquently honored all who have served. The guest speaker was Brigadier General Paul K. Lebidine, USMC (Ret) and he was truly inspiring to those in attendance. Our thanks to Donna Russell for officiating the proceedings. Donna has been organizing this tribute for nine years with the assistance of the Choral Society, the Rancho Buena Vista High School Band, and Director Erin Weirather. The ROTC Color Guard from El Camino High School presented the colors. The Memorial Wreath was created by Bob Wong and donated by the Garden Club. The AV Committee Members were there to record the production for future showings on the in-house channel 1960. Our thanks to all who committed their time and efforts to honor our veterans, so well deserved. The Golf Cart Parade is making its way through the Village on Tues., Dec. 17, notification will be delivered to each home. The golf carts will stage themselves in the Overflow Parking Lot. The AV Team will be there to video the entire procession, as it moves to the Clubhouse, and then out along the designated route. The route will be listed on the back of the flyer. This event has grown each year and the participation is incredible. Prizes will be given out to the winners. Thank you to Anne Cain, Kathy Barbier, and their team of volunteers. It is a real challenge keeping the flow of the parade, as residents' wave, sing, chit chat, and stay safe - all at the same time. Please contact Anne or Kathy, if interested in participating. The Clubhouse will close at 5 pm on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve. New Year's Day will be operations as usual, although set-ups will be minimal, the amenities will be open for use. The Recreation Department is sponsoring the New Year's Eve Bash. We see residents we do not normally see for this event. The evening offers a wonderful way to bring in 2020 and to meet neighbors. No need to worry about getting out on the highway, paying for parking and a coat check-in. The dress is cocktail, even formal attire is appropriate. Details are in this publication and tickets can be purchased at the Front Desk. The new year gets started off with Do Dues Day on Jan. 4, 2020 from 10 am to 2 pm. The RV Club plans a barbecue lunch for all to participate in - for a cost that will not break the 'ole pocketbook. The clubs make themselves available, sign up new members, and answer questions. Bring a checkbook! Annual golf bag tags will be available at the Front Desk. Any resident that is using the golf course is required to display a current bag tag. The 2020 bag tags will be dayglo orange and there is no charge. Please review the golf course rules on the back of the tag. We wish you a beautiful and memorable holiday. A Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to you and yours. Thank you for remembering the staff this year, with your generosity, goodies, and thoughtful gestures. It has been a pleasure celebrating your 35th Anniversary year and we are looking forward to starting anew in January. Let's ring in 2020 with a desire to be healthier, more neighborly, and more involved, in what is described as "the summer camp for adults." See you somewhere in the Clubhouse!
