| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | January 2020 | 27 From the President - Gary Sopata: This year we are streamlining our articles for the Herald, so stay tuned for more detailed communication from your new Board. We thank last year's Board for their hard work on behalf of our club. Please welcome your new board members for 2020: President, Gary Sopata; Vice President, Bernie Sebzda; Treasurer, Vivian Ceballos; Secretary, Irene Becker; Past President, Tom Moore. Other Chairs are: Tournaments, Elliot Yaeger; Handicap, Melody Lewis; Rules, Dominic Tassoni; Greens, Bill Barnes; Membership, Marilyn Edmonds and Social, Debbie James. Please plan on attending our first general membership meeting on Tues., Jan. 14 after golf. We will be presenting our plans and recommendations for our Hemet 4 Seasons Golf Club in 2020. I am personally looking forward an amazing year of golf for all of us! From the Handicap Chair - Melody Lewis: Sandbaggers beware! The new World Handicap System has built in safeguards to ensure golfer's handicap indexes are as accurate as possible. In the past, handicaps would be reduced (R) automatically by the computer based on T (tournament) scores. Exceptional tournament scores, three or more strokes lower than the current handicap index, would automatically reduce (R) a players handicap. The new system will now look at all scores. Differentials that are seven or more strokes below a player's handicap index will immediately cause a reduction of one or two strokes. There is no limit to how many times a reduction can take place. High scores will be handled based on the 12 month low handicap index. If a newly calculated index is significantly more than the 12 month low index, an increase in the index will be suppressed so that the index cannot increase more than five strokes over a 12 month period. From the Tournament Chair - Elliot Yaeger: You may sign up for golf at the golf course prior to Tuesday's golf event or send an email to hemet4sgc@gmail.com by Monday noon. We will be utilizing four handicap flights this year. Jan 7: 8 am - Balanced Team Scramble (ABCD)* Jan 14: 8 am - Partners Different Flight… Best Net Score per Hole Jan 21: 8 am - Individual Blind Draw from Front 9, Back 9 or All 18 holes Jan 28: 8 am - (T) "Masters" Low Net by Flight. Post as Tournament ALSO Low Net = Qualifying Round for President's Cup … 8 players per Flight The 2019 season of Four Seasons Shuffleboard has ended. Our last game was Nov. 7 and the finals were held on Nov. 14. First Place goes to the team of Jim Gates and Mike Garrett. Second Place goes to the team of John and Sandi O'Connor. Congratulations to our first and second place winners and to everyone who played shuffleboard this year. Our awards party will be held in January after the holiday season. I will be resigning my position as Chairman of Shuffleboard, effective as of our last event, the awards party in January. Toni Harris has volunteered to take over this job. Our treasurer Royce Jerman is also resigning and Monica Scholls has volunteered for this position. I offer my sincere thanks to everyone who has volunteered and helped while I was Chairman. I know these two ladies will do a great job! There is a group who are practicing most Monday and Friday mornings. They start at approximately 8:30 am and play for about one to two hours. Come out and join them, they are great teachers for anyone new to the game. This is a fun sport, easy to learn and easy on the joints!
