The year 2020 brings about many changes. The Herald has put a 400 word limit on all articles. That will eliminate long book reports and my ramblings. So – welcome to the year 2020. We hope it will allow plenty of reading time. Our library was decorated so nice for the holidays. Our thanks to the decorators. All books are donated by residents and belong to the Four Seasons Library. Due to limited space we have guidelines that allow us to display as many books as possible. We follow the honor system. Simply stated – "bring back what you borrow." The hardbound fiction books are displayed from 2010-2020. We have many current books. They are alphabetized by author. Hardback non-fiction does not go by date and though we try to keep them alphabetized it seems to be a losing battle. Our paperback books are displayed from 2015-2020. Yes, we have a 2020 paperback by David Putnam. We hope you were able to attend his talk in November. Support our author's talks by your attendance. Please donate your magazines dated November, December and January to be displayed. Smaller magazines, such as Prevention, are accepted and put on our tables to read while there. Our very popular audio books are now kept in two cabinets. Look under the author "P" section of hardback fiction for the new area. We could use plenty of donations to help fill the pull out shelfs. There are still plenty of movies you can check out by going to the front desk. They have a list to choose from. From Blair, "If you don't like to read, you haven't found the right book." J.K. Rowling Committee member Anita Decker read The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See. A powerful novel of war, friendship and conflict during a time of turmoil in Korean history – spanning Japanese dominance, followed by WWII, the Korean War/American occupation and the modern technology of the 21st century. The setting is extraordinary where you can imagine the beauty of the sea and the mountains; a detailed picture of a unique culture in which the husbands care for the children and the family is reliant on the haenyeo or women divers for their livelihood. These people will haunt you – a bit of history not in the textbooks. I DID IT! Until next month, Cookie. | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | January 2020 | 13 Library Committee Your Architectural Review Committee (ARC) has been very busy this past year. This is a very positive sign for our Four Seasons Community showing continued and even growing interest in maintaining and improving our homes. Here are the statistics for the past 12 months: • Number of Applications: 233 • Number of Approvals upon first review: 189 or about 81.1% • Number of Denials upon first review: 41 or about 17.5% – most later approved upon receipt of additional information. • Number of Continued or Tabled upon first review, but approved upon receipt of additional information: 3 The ARC meets twice monthly, on the first and third Mondays of the month at 8:30 am in the Lodge Board Room. With 24 meetings during the past year, our average agenda included nearly 10 applications per meeting. With a conservative estimate of at least $1,000 of improvement per application, our community has invested nearly a quarter of a million dollars in our homes in the past year, and likely, this amount could be considerably higher. The ARC thanks all of our residents and homeowners for their continuing interest and involvement in their homes and in our community, and looks forward to a productive 2020. And please remember, residents are welcome to attend our meetings. Architectural Review Committee As we begin the new year we are reminded of the things of yester- year and what lies ahead for us in 2020. We do believe that the significant alterations we have made to the front and rear gate access, has provided better, and more reliable barrier control than before. As you well know, if you have read our 2019 monthly articles, we did spend an inordinate amount of time studying the issue of "speeding" within our community. This is a very serious issue, and one that does not have a short term answer. We do believe however that with continued due diligence, and constant updated information, we will eventually find a satisfactory method to accomplish this. Meanwhile, we respectfully ask that you drive safely, and be considerate of your neighbors. Access Control Committee
