| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | January 2020 | 25 Healthy Living Tips for Healthy Holiday Eating 1. Be realistic. Don't try to lose pounds during the holidays, instead try to maintain your current weight. 2. Plan time for exercise. Exercise helps relieve holiday stress and prevent weight gain. A moderate and daily increase in exercise can help partially offset increased holiday eating. Try 10 or 15-minute brisk walks twice a day. 3. Don't skip meals. Before leaving for a party, eat a light snack like raw vegetables or a piece of fruit to curb your appetite. You will be less tempted to over-indulge. 4. Survey party buffets before filling your plate. Choose your favorite foods and skip your least favorite. Include vegetables and fruits to keep your plate balanced. 5. Eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed. Savor your favorite holiday treats while eating small portions. Sit down, get comfortable, and enjoy. 6. Be careful with beverages. Alcohol can lessen inhibitions and induce overeating; non-alcoholic beverages can be full of calories and sugar. 7. If you overeat at one meal go light on the next. It takes 500 calories per day (or 3,500 calories per week) above your normal/ maintenance consumption to gain one pound. It is impossible to gain weight from one piece of pie! 8. Take the focus off food. Turn candy and cookie making time into non-edible projects like making wreaths, dough art decorations or a gingerbread house. Plan group activities with family and friends that aren't all about food. Try serving a holiday meal to the community, playing games or going on a walking tour of decorated homes. 9. Bring your own healthy dish to a holiday gathering. Practice healthy holiday cooking. Preparing favorite dishes lower in fat and calories will help promote healthy holiday eating. This healthy information is brought to you by the Healthy Living support team. Come join us in 2020. We meet every Wednesday at 9 am in the Multipurpose Room. If you have any questions about our program, please call Dave and Karen Tuvim, 599-4236 We conclude our look at Healthy Living members (albeit from their early years). These two will be identified in the February 2020 Herald. We have had lots of fun with this. Hope you have as well. The December Herald featured Team Members: Carl Kreun, Ruby Weaver and Julie Kreun. Happy Campers RV Club Our Happy Campers RV Club is planning another fun get-away to Pismo Beach in September, 2020. It's a great time of the year to visit the beaches and restaurants in town. "Jeepers" can also ride the dunes which makes for an interesting and fun day (did I say "yikes!"). So a reminder to those contemplating this trip to get in touch with Linda Wetter as soon as possible as she is organizing this trip and collecting the down payment. More trips are in the planning stage with a possible trip to Quartzsite, Arizona in mid-January 2020. We are always open to new ideas for camping as well as returning to our favorite oldies too. Four Seasons Happy Campers RV Club meets the first Saturday of the month in the Multipurpose Room at 10 am. We encourage donations of canned food: beans, soups or fruit, cereal and pasta (no expired dates please) for the Hemet Food Pantry. Co-Chairs for the Happy Campers: Cynthia Ellingworth, cynthia0430@verizon.net and/or Julie Muldoon, muldoon_julie@ hotmail.com. Happy New Year! Bocce's official season at Four Seasons starts in the spring every year. This year the season will be for 10 weeks, our current players have requested a longer season. Watch the Herald for more information about sign-ups, which will be early in 2020! HELP WANTED I am resigning as Chairman of Bocce effective January 2020, our treasurer Royce Jerman is also resigning. Monica Scholls will be the new treasurer for both Bocce and Shuffleboard. THERE IS NO VOLUNTEER YET FOR THE CHAIRMAN JOB! Please consider helping Bocce to continue as a club here at Four Seasons. Dave Scott will continue to groom the courts, Orville Ellingworth will continue to schedule and keep track of every team's scores throughout the season. Dennis Harris will continue as secretary. I will be happy to help the new Chairman in any way that I can. I really am thankful for the committee's support these past few years, it certainly made my job easier. Any resident of Four Seasons may sign out the Bocce equipment and play at any time. The Lodge attendant will be happy to assist you. They will take you to the SPA building where the older equipment is stored and give it to you for your use. You would then return the bag to the door of the storage area and let the Lodge attendant know that you are finished. They will put it back at their leisure.
