52 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2020 | POP Tennis Personal Player Stories "She's a Tall Drink of Water" Our Massachusetts Miss looks more like a Norwegian beauty with her long legs and blonde hair. And her tenacity must stem from her Scotch and English heritage… two rather robust cultures. The most shocking thing that ever happened to her was when her mother was pronounced DOA and then was revived and lived 10 more years on dialysis. On the courts, if you hear her say, "Watch the ball!" she is probably trying to help you, as she plays well, even if she has been participating for only two years now with pop tennis. She quite clearly has played tennis before, and as a matter of fact, for 20 years. She is passionate about sports and especially watching the tennis tournaments whenever she can. She has lived in Sun Lakes for the last two and a half years with her significant other Ernie, and she loves dancing and playing water volleyball. She loves the outdoors, including gardening. She loves to be around fun people who like to do things and she's extremely fond of animals — especially rescue animals. She entertains and cooks with vigor and enjoys going out to dinner, as well as hosting dinners. So, if you have not already guessed, our Lady of the Moment is Wendy Liquori, who has a daughter and two granddaughters. She has also traveled to Italy, Greece, St. John, Bermuda, Virgin Islands, Acapulco, Norway, Amsterdam, Toronto, Montreal, and Niagara Falls. So, now that you know more about the personalities out there, come and join us. We welcome Michelle Carter as our new President and Pat Carter as the VP! Demo paddles are available. Come out and see what it's all about, or call Jeanne at (951) 845-8817 or Suzanne at (951) 205-9588. Come out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 8 to 10 am to intermingle with some real characters and all those pop tennis ladies and gents! Table Tennis/Ping Pong We play Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4 to 6 pm, and Sat., 10 am to 12 noon in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (normally). Because the Ballroom is such a popular venue for so many varied events, our time slot sometimes gets canceled. Therefore if you are not a regular attendee please refer to the Sun Lakes website at sunlakescc.com and click on "Recreation" then click on "Classes," and finally click on "Table Tennis Group" for the current months up to date schedule. You can also check the Main Clubhouse events board across from the recreation desk or call the reception desk at "(951) 845-2191 for that days calendar. We have all skill levels currently participating and welcome all new comers. We have several newer quality tables, and all the equipment is provided free by the Sun Lakes Recreation Department. A fun way to exercise! Please come give us a try. There are no fees. Laced tennis shoes required - no exceptions!
