56 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JANUARY 2020 | Happy New Year! It's that time again — time to play bocce ball! The Winter Tournament begins the week of Jan. 13. If you haven't already signed your team up, it's not too late. Entries close Fri., Jan. 3 at 5 pm. Remember, a new entry card must be filled out with the new year's onset. They can be found in the bocce cabinet. Bocce Club dues must, again, be paid: $12 pp per year. If you will be playing on a team, each member must pay the team fee of $3. That's a grand total of $60 per team. If you wish to play but don't have a team, call Dutch at (951) 845-0392. She may be able to find three others in the same boat. As always, entries go to 1288 Pleasant Valley. There is a box at the door. In an effort to catch the warmest part of each day, we will be playing at 1, 2, and 3 pm, (4 pm, if necessary) Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Please, when you fill out your entries, give us a second choice if at all possible. Scheduling 60 plus teams is difficult at best. To teams that do so, we say 'bless you'! BTW, there is a calendar on the back of the bocce cabinet that shows when each tournament begins and ends and the length of each one. It may help you in planning your other activities. Questions, call Dutch at the number above. Hope to see you all on the courts! Friends of Bocce Friday mornings, 9 am in the North Clubhouse. Cost is only $5 per week (or $20 per month). Tai chi (Tie-Chee) is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Originally developed for self-defense, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. The tradition of Tai Chi dates back to at least the 15th century in China, and the practice is based on the belief that balancing the opposite forces in the body (known as yin and yang) will encourage the flow of chi (energy) through the body to promote health. You may also find Tai Chi appealing because it's inexpensive and requires no special equipment. Tai Chi can be done anywhere, alone or in a group class. If you're looking for a way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi and join fellow Sun Lakers in developing strength in balance, stamina, and flexibility. Info., Dee Coughtry, (951) 381-4919. Tai Chi
