56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2020 Tennis Club Paddle Tennis Our paddle tennis group wishes everyone a safe and healthy holiday season. Our group met on Dec. 7 for our Christmas luncheon at Tommy Bahama in Palm Desert. We enjoyed the atmosphere, food and friendship. We are a small group, yet full of joy and support for each other. We hope for more folks to join us next year. For more information, call Alan Chan at (310) 251-9269 or Alex Castanon at (909) 746-7529. ~ Elizabeth Gallegos, ecgallegos@ outlook.com The Tennis Club finished an active 2019 with the Autumn Aces Doubles Tournament. Ten doubles teams competed in front of an enthusiastic crowd. There really were enough club members, guests, friends, and other audience members to be considered a crowd. For sure there were enough folks to pretty much dust off the bleachers with their buttocks. When they were not seated watching matches, crowd members and players could compete in a variety of games and contests, such as Corn Hole Tennis Ball Toss, Ace The Turkey, and Wild-A$$ guessing games. A nice lunch prepared by the Kopper Kettle Bistro was enjoyed by the more than 40 players and other participants. As to the tennis matches, the winning doubles team was Larry Martin and Larry Workman, with Chikako Ferguson and Tim Jones the runners-up. Larry Martin also won the Most Aces competition among the men, and Julie Stayner and Tina Soeten tied among the women. The club thanks the many contributors to the planning and implementation of the awesome Autumn Aces Doubles Tournament, including Chuck and Sheryl Beckman, Bernadette Chance, Alex and Sunny Castanon, Chikako Ferguson, Liliana Simanton, Nancy Walker, Rebecca and Brian Flowers, Howard Levine, Lyle Cameron, and Club President, Bernadette Martin. With so many willing and capable contributors, 2020 will be even better. Three dates have already been reserved at The Courts for events in this year – May 30, July 18, and Oct. 10, in addition to our monthly Play Days and Saturday drills and practices. The opportunity to participate in the planning and preparation for events will be a major task of the Tennis Club Executive Committee. The Committee will be selected at the Annual Membership Meeting and Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 1, in the RCN main room. All Tennis Club members are encouraged to attend the dinner meeting, the cost of which is covered as a benefit to dues-paying members. This evening will also include elections for the Executive Committee. The positions are President, Secretary, Activities Director, Treasurer/Finance, and Breeze Writer. Please consider running for the Tennis Club Executive Committee. Weather permitting, we continue to have Play Days on the last Saturday of the month. See you on the courts. ~ Steven Hovey, sahovey47@hotmail.com The Finalists - Larry, Larry, Chikako & Tim Tina, Julie, and Larry Ace Champs Den eyes his return, Bernie ready at the net Paddle Tennis luncheon at Tommy Bahama
