48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2020 African American Cultural Club The Four Seasons at Beaumont Amateur Radio Club held elections in November for the club's officers in 2020. Peter Hersey is our new president; Fred Plenge continues as vice president; and Fred Weck became our new secretary/treasurer… congratulations to our new office holders! We also held our annual Christmas party in December at Marla's Mexican Restaurant. We had a great turn out and everyone enjoyed the food and the camaraderie. Please join us for our regular monthly meeting in the RCN at 10 am the last Friday of every month. If you have a Family Radio Service Radio (FRS) you can listen/join in to our net at 5:45 pm every Wednesday evening. ~Jim Peterson, jimsally@hotmail.com RADIO CLUB Radio Control Room at the RCN NEW LEADERS, NEW VISION, NEW DIRECTION. You must come to our first meeting of the year and learn why we are so excited. It's on Monday, Jan. 6 at 6 pm in The Lodge Game Room. As an added feature, we will be having a belated Kwanza Celebration lead by our very own Betty Ann James, and there will be handmade gifts to be won. Come and join us in congratulating our new board members for 2020. They are Regina Thomas, President; Jan White, Vice President; Jane Gentry, Secretary; David Miller, Treasurer; and Wanda Valentine, Public Relations Officer. Regina Thomas is a wife, grandmother, and entrepreneur. She retired from mortgage banking and now enjoys walking, reading, writing, and whipping up her own designer Shea Body Butters. Regina has been a member of the AACC for four years and cares about sharing the African- American Culture and experience with others. Regina believes that "It's only by association that you come to love and understand people." Jan White is a retired teacher advisor. Her hobbies are writing poetry and short stories. She has lived in Four Seasons for over eight years and has been an AACC member for the last two years. She joined AACC when she discovered that they were making a positive difference in our very diverse community. Jan sincerely cares about sharing her knowledge and experience for the well-being of all people. Jane Gentry joined the AACC two years ago. She likes scrapbooking, solving puzzles, and exercising. She is retired and while volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, they hired her. She joined the AACC to celebrate being African- American and to learn more about her culture. Jane believes that "Everyone should embrace the culture of helping others." David Miller is a retired police officer who has lived in Four Seasons with his wife, Myrtis Suggs, for two years. He joined the AACC because he appreciates the willingness to share their cultural values with everyone. His hobbies are poetry writing, reading, and hiking. He says, "The more you learn about others the more you learn about yourself." Wanda Valentine is a Charter member of the AACC; helping to form the group in an effort to share her knowledge and experience in African-American culture, and also to give back to the community. Wanda retired from Hughes Aircraft Software Engineering. She likes gardening, shopping, and decorating. Wanda is a spiritual leader, and her motto is "Become a lover of life."
