44 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2020 | Experience the Great Folk Era of the latter half of the 20th century with The Folk Legacy Trio on Sun., Feb. 9 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Enjoy a journey through American Musical History with their signature dynamic harmonies enriching some of the most beloved songs ever written. The Folk Legacy Trio are George Grove, formerly with The Kingston Trio for 41 years, Rick Dougherty, former member of The Limeliters and Kingston Trio for a combined 25 years, and Jerry Siggins, former lead singer of The Diamonds for 27 years. They'll be performing what George calls the "Great American Folk Song Book," singing music that will span the entire Folk Era; from the Weavers, Merle Travis and Tennessee Ernie Ford in the early 50s through the commercial success of such groups as The Kingston Trio; Peter, Paul & Mary, The Chad Mitchell Trio and The Brothers Four, as well as solo performers Tom Paxton, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver and many others. Tickets for the show are $20 for members, $25 for non-resident guests. Doors open at 6 pm, show begins at 7 pm. Make checks out to Friendship Club, and deliver them to 5168 Rio Bravo Drive. Sun Lakers are getting back into the swing of things they love and delving into new events and experiences. It's time to get out of the house and meet new neighbors. This month's event is a charming movie, a love story that we'll bring to you at 7 pm on Wed., Feb. 12 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Coffee, cake, and popcorn will be served. The movie is free to members, $3 for non-members. Such a deal! This movie will surely tickle your funny bone and your own memories. It's about a mother in Switzerland who wants her son to find a nice girl to marry. Sound familiar? Well, he has found a girlfriend, but his mother can't possibly approve. Come for the laughs, the tears, the anguish, and a reminder of what truly happens within the family. No reservations are required for this entertaining evening. Just show up and be prepared to enjoy. YCC meets on the second Wednesday of each month providing interesting programs for all Sun Lakers. New and meaningful topics for our membership are always in the works, and input from our members is welcome. There's entertainment, movies, guest speakers, ice cream socials, barbecues, sit-down dinners, and much more in the planning. We are an all-inclusive club, no Yiddish necessary, and all beliefs are welcome. Don't sit at home alone. There is a little bit of something for everyone. Give us a try. A mere pittance of $7.50 per person is needed to join from February to June 2020. Yearly membership is from July to June, and is only $15 per person. On your birthday and/or anniversary, you will even receive a sweet treat. Contact Diane Berley at (818) 943- 6457 for more information. Program questions? Call Diane Stone at (951) 769-0130.
