22 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2020 The Social Committee is so excited about our Feb. 23 entertainment. Come out to hear Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, and Buddy Holly impersonators presented by Premeditated Productions Palm Springs. Wear your 50's attire, be ready to dance, BYOB, and enjoy the fun. Check with the Lobby front desk to see if tickets are still available. Also, if you would like to be part of the Social Committee learning how things are planned, become involved with the events, and just have fun with a great group of members, we welcome you to come to a monthly meeting as a guest. Our next meeting will be Feb. 4 at 1 pm in the RCN. ~ Joyce Hogue, jhogue54@gmail.com Social Committee February is upon us and it's a good time to do some housekeeping. Please take time to audit and purge your permanent guest list for access into Four Seasons. Caregivers, housekeepers, gardeners, and friends can change and if we still have them on our list, they still have access to our community. For all guests, please direct them to the Potrero gate for access and never provide them a code other than the one that allows you to buzz them in. It's winter and cold, with wet, icy, or snowy roads. Black ice is also a possibility, especially in the lower areas down by the Crooked Creek Bridge in the early morning hours. This is because cold air is able to cool both the top and under the bridge or overpass, bringing about faster freezing. Black ice is a glaze that forms on the surfaces (roads, sidewalks, and driveways) because of a light freezing rain or because of melting and re-freezing snow, water, or ice on surfaces. It tends to look like the rest of the pavement on the road, although in reality it's actually clear ice. Black ice forms without bubbles, which allows it to blend in with any surface it forms over. Since you can't see black ice, you will know you have encountered it when your car starts to drift or lose traction. If your front wheels start to slide, take your foot off the accelerator and allow the vehicle to slow. If you still don't have control of the vehicle, lightly press the brake (we're talking one toe here). To avoid skidding on the ice, one tip rings true: slow down! If you are one of the many walkers either with or without a dog, remember it is still getting dark early. It's always a great idea to wear reflective clothing or shoes so that drivers can see you while crossing the street. For extra protection there are also reflective leashes for your dog. The Safety Committee meets the first Tuesday of every month in the RCN at 10 am and everyone is welcome. ~ Kathy Craven, kathycraven@rocketmail.com Safety Committee
