FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2020 51 The 4x4 Seasons Off Road Club enjoyed two recent outings. Giant Rock up in the high desert and Ocotillo Wells down in the low desert. On our Giant Rock trip, the timing happened to be right, and we were fortunate enough to drive down Main Street through the Whitehorse Ranch Movie Studio in Landers. The owner, Pete in his wild west attire, welcomed us and made us feel right at home. Pete even took some pictures with the kids on the wood plank sidewalk in front of the Main Street Bank. Once we finished our self guided tour of the Whitehorse Ranch, we headed to the other side of the mountain to the seven-story high, world-famous Giant Rock. We set up for lunch on the concrete pad where, back in the 1930s, a prospector who lived under the rock built his restaurant. There's a dirt runway close by and the area is known for UFO conventions and sightings. After lunch, we made our way across the Mojave (through the Marine Base) to the Los Padres and Green Hornet mine sites. Couldn't go in these mines, but still very cool to see what's left of them. The trail then took us south, up and over a challenging sand dune into Johnson Valley. After a total of about 30 miles off road, it was time to air up and head for home. We had planned to see some of the King of Hammers (KOH) obstacles, but we were running out of daylight. KOH in Johnson Valley will be another trip. Anyone not in the club who lives here at Four Seasons and has a four wheel drive vehicle that they don't mind getting dirty and maybe a little desert pinstriped, is welcome to come to our monthly meetings. The meetings are the first Tuesday of the month at 6 pm in The Lodge Arts & Crafts Room. Hope to see you there. ~ Scott Snyder, scottdonaldsnyder@gmail.com 4x4 Seasons Hanging out at the Saloon on Main Street: Top row (L-R): Scott & Joette Snyder, Doug & Robin Pearson, Steve & Luanne Kenyon, Bob Cooper, Gary & Paulette Sigritz, and Gerry Bonner; Front row (L-R): Monroe "the wonder dog," Levi, Landon, Joseph, and Gerry's son-in-law Greg Crossing the southwest corner of the 29 Palms Marine Base Climbing one of the steep hills at Ocotillo Wells
