10 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | February 2020 | Emergency preparedness committee Your Emergency Preparedness Committee wants you to know that in a disaster or other emergency situation normal communications like cell and telephones may not be available. Do you know how you will be able to communicate in such a situation? "Ham" radios will operate in just that situation. If you are interested in becoming a Ham there is training being offered by the Lee DeForest Amateur Radio Club right here in Hemet. (https://www. ldradioclub.com/) Technician Class: The first class is Feb. 7, no class on Feb. 14, then continue on Feb. 21,28, March 6,13 and 20. The test is on the 21st. Please see testing info above. Classes are 5:30 to 8:30 pm and are held at Camelot. The textbook is $18. The Four Seasons Emergency Preparedness Committee, i.e., the committee that sponsors our CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), coordinates mitigation for, and recovery after disasters. We are in need of volunteers with the following skills. Medical Commander: We need a volunteer to serve on Disaster Incident Command as a Medical Commander during a disaster. This person would have some medical experience such as an EMT, nurse, doctor, or other medical specialty. They would give guidance to our Street Captains during disaster (probably at the Lodge Triage Area Ballroom), assist in triage, and supervise our local first aid training. In addition, they would give guidance to the EPC in medical issues. Fire Mitigation Commander: We need a volunteer to serve as Fire Dept. liaison to help create a fire mitigation plan for Four Seasons. This person will either have fire department experience or government experience in knowing how to work with the Fire Department, CAL Fire, Riverside County. Recruitment Commander: Recruitment for our CERT organization is an ongoing task as people leave and new residents arrive. The Recruitment Commander will initiate and coordinate actions to recruit new members, e.g., the annual Great Shakeout BBQ. He will coordinate CERT training with Hemet Fire quarterly and provide an oral report at the monthly CERT meeting. Assistant Webmaster: Someone familiar with WordPress, Formidable, and other web environments to maintain our website and maintain the database. Other: If you have expertise you believe would benefit our community through membership in the EPC, let us know. Contact Paul O'Neill for more information at pdo2641@gmail. com. The EPC meets January through October on the third Monday, 9:30 am at the Lodge Game Room. Our Mission: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is designed to increase individual and community preparedness and self-reliance in the event of man-made or natural disasters. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has officially recognized CERT as an important part of a community's disaster preparedness readiness. Four Seasons CERT continues to need your participation. Become a Street Captain or CERT Auxiliary. Step up. Be a part of the best CERT in the valley, come make a difference. Facilities Committee Here it is already February of the new year. Time seems to fly by. The Facilities Committee has a few projects on slate for this year. We plan on looking into replacing the Ballroom carpet and enlarging the dance floor near the end of 2020. We hope to replace the deteriorating structures at the Shuffleboard and Bocce courts and have the pool deck, the area around the barbecues and the front entrance to the Lodge resurfaced. And hopefully the road resurfacing project will be over this year. These are major undertakings and we still have to take care of all the smaller projects that pop up during the year. We are always asking the residents, if they see something that needs to be taken care of, please make the front desk aware of the problem. Again we hope everyone has a very happy new year.
