| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2020 | 17 Ocean Hills Dance Troupe The Dance Troupe will "hit the ground running" in 2020 in full practice mode for our circus themed show "Dancing Under the Big Top" on June 19 and 20. Our most experienced tap and jazz dancers (Diamonds) and our up and coming dancers (Rubies) are diligently attending weekly dance classes and practices. There will be a fun variety of dance styles in our show including Hawaiian dance, belly dance, couples dance, and a "musclemen" dance along with other talents. In addition to learning our dance steps we are learning how to dance together as a team. Dance is exercise for the body and the brain! Another fun team effort has been choosing our costumes for each dance. You will see your dance friends and neighbors as you have never seen them before in such dazzling outfits. Our dance teacher is the very patient Yvonne Romano who instructs us and encourages us to have fun and be joyful about dancing. Our new board is set to meet in January with Allison Stewart as President, Phyllis Buvel as Vice-President, Ann Lagasse as Treasurer, and Margie Raisigel as Secretary. The Dance Troupe welcomes new members whether you are new to dance or have dance experience. If you are interested in tap or jazz dancing please contact Allison Stewart at als2art@gmail.com. If you are interested in Hawaiian dancing please contact Valerie Thompson at valgene2@cox.net. If you are interested in belly dancing please contact Sharon Lair at (760) 822-2670. Ballroom Club: Get Up and Dance! Experience the magic of exercising your body and brain through the joys of ballroom dancing. Don't let another year go by without satisfying that yearning to 'really' learn how to dance. Don't worry if you have two left feet - this is a friendly club that cheers everyone on for trying. At our age, step out and grab all the gusto you can in life! Membership is only $10/person per year. Put your check in our envelope at the front desk to receive our weekly emails and stay on top of our exciting dance events. Every couple of weeks we start a new dance series of dance lessons on Wednesdays. This means that you can start anytime and pick the dances that you want to learn or improve. Beginner lessons are from 3 to 4 pm and Intermediate from 2 to 3 pm in Abravanel Hall. It is $5 for members and $7 for guests and you can pay at the door. Our Glittery Holiday Ball was spectacular, thanks to Kate Butler and Selma Leighton! Food stations around the room dazzled with global gourmet bites. Loaded Question icebreakers led to fun discussion around the beautifully decorated tables. Beginning dancers, Carrie and Larry McBride, bravely danced a Foxtrot routine. Tai Lien and Phyllis Buvel impressed the crowd with some sizzling Salsa. Our new dance instructors, Maria Tee and Larry Clenendon, lit up the dance floor with their Night Club Two Step routine. And, everyone shook their booties all night to Musicstation's superb sound. Dancing to live music on our first-class Abravanel Hall dance floor is a treat you won't want to miss. Please join us on Valentine's Day, Fri., Feb. 14, for our next dance. Need more information? Have any questions? Email Club President Carrie McBride at ohccballroom@ gmail.com. Ballroom Dance
