18 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | March 2020 | It has been my pleasure and honor to be a Four Season's instructor for drawing and painting over the last 15 years. We have so many talented artists in our community and my involvement has been a very important part of my life. I have watched our neighbors and friends evolve into accomplished artists. I have heard from so many students that art was always important in their life but that they never had the time to take it seriously until now. This brings me great joy to know that they are doing it now. This is the time in our life to enjoy that which makes us happy. Art plays a larger role in our life other than just being a hobby. In my career as a psych RN, I have observed and studied art and its effects on the human condition. Neurological research has shown that art can improve cognitive functions and create new neural paths which helps expand the brains reserve capacity. This means that memory, reasoning and our ability to adapt improves. Art can additionally reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. The best time to start is now. There is no hidden secret to being an artist, just the desire will get you there. The desire keeps you practicing and the practice will improve your skills. It's just that simple. I am so proud of my students and the motivation they have found through their desire to succeed. We will be displaying student art in The Lodge gallery during March and April. Additionally, we will have the Annual Art Show in the Ballroom on March 7. Please, join us. Enjoying art can provide all the benefits of making art, both cognitively and emotionally.
