FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2020 19 With the build-out complete and K. Hovnanian leaving our community, ARC expects to see our tasks reduce. All homeowners still need to submit an application whenever they make changes to their yards and the outside of their homes. However, the initial applications will continue to go away. So if you have been reluctant to serve on our committee because of the workload, now is the time to reconsider. We would love to see you at our next meeting. We meet the first and third Wednesday of every month at 8:30 am in the RCN Conference Room. ~ Steve Cooley, (801) 815-5302, cooleyaudit@gmail.com Architectural Review Committee PREPARATION CAN BE COMFORTING My friend Tom started the Boo Bear Project for the Hemet Lyons Club. The idea behind it was to distribute stuffed toys to children whose parents were being incarcerated or severely injured in a traffic accident. The bears represented comfort. Four Seasons Residents are responsible for their own comfort. The item could be a pair of slippers or reading glasses. It could also be an old sweater or blanket. The past few years should have made us aware that we are no longer immune to the natural disasters that sweep the country every year. Here in Southern California we do not usually have tornadoes or hurricanes but we do have wildfires, floods, and earthquakes. I have always wondered what keeps people living in dangerous areas. I think what keeps people here are close community and family ties. We have learned the hard way that we need more than sunscreen and extra water for a hot day. We cannot fight Mother Nature but we can sure prepare for her. Our friends and relatives in the Midwest have learned to live with the threat of natural disasters and so should we. Somehow the lessons of drop, cover, and hold drills have been swept away. The Cold War was over and we were urged to do our own thing. We limited prescribed burns to keep our air clean and we built subdivisions in the grassy foothills. The little engine of economic progress brought us living perilously close to brush covered hills. This only became a major problem when it became evident that we were in a major drought. The lack of water made fire season a year- round event. The RivcoReady.org website lists the things that should be in your emergency or go kit: 1. First Aid Supplies 2. Food and Water 3. Bedding 4. Clothing 5. Personal Supplies 6. Fuel and Light 7. Equipment 8. Additional Items 9. Pet needs 10. Personal Documents The website shows most of this stuff stored in a trash container. More information on emergency or go kits can be obtained on the Fema.Gov website or the websites of the Red Cross or the LDS Church. We may not have a storm shelter or hurricane shutters but we can become comfortable living here by being prepared. The next EPC meeting is Tuesday, March 24 at 10 am in the RCN Conference Room. ~ Michael A. Mendoza Emergency Preparedness Committee Facilities Committee The Breckenridge gate should now be turned over to us and fully functional for residents of our community. NPG will slurry the streets in Phase A and Four Seasons Blvd. between The Summit and The Courts. That will take place early this year. Empire Technologies has completed the new security camera upgrade and that includes cameras at the Breckenridge gate. We are still in the process of working on finalizing bids and approvals for roof repairs on The Lodge, the RCN, and Spa buildings. The new LED lighting for the pickleball and paddle ball courts should be through the approval process by publication of this article. The new lighting will be brighter for better court coverage and have a substantial energy and maintenance savings. The Facilities Committee meets in the RCN conference room on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 am. We always welcome residents to join us and share their ideas or concerns. ~ Jim Griffin, jjimgriff08@aol.com
