| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2020 | 9 HOA Election To Fill Majority Of Board Seats By Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly It is ELECTION TIME again. Happens every year. Depending whether it is an even or an odd year we have open positions on the Board of Directors. On the even years there are three positions open, two positions on the odd years. There is a lot of discussion and conversation about this year's election — NO INCUMBENTS ARE RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION. This year the residents will vote into office a majority of the Board of Directors. This is a worrisome situation for some of our residents. Over some 30 years of existence, Sun Lakes residents have been conscientious, smart, and selective in their voting for members of the Board of Directors. Sun Lakers will step up to the plate and vote into office the best we have. Sessions of the Board will be slower and more deliberate because more research will have to be done by the newcomers. Legal matters, accounting situations, and state laws concerning our HOA will demand more study and more explanation so members can vote with assurance and knowledge. Operating a multi-million dollar corporation is not your every day chore. Every decision made affects almost 6,000 people, their financial status and their lifestyle. When you are on the Board of Directors you are brought up short when you realize the burden you carry. All of the homeowners are depending on you to keep one of the most successful HOAs in the country on track and financially stable as it has been in the past. If you had a personal agenda it goes out the window — you realize you are one of five votes. Sometimes what you think is a great idea, is immaterial and not even part of the discussion. If you are not a team player, I predict your participation on the Board of Directors will be short and not so sweet. Please take these comments as they are given — a reality check! On the contrary, being elected to the Board of Directors is one of the most satisfying positions you will ever attain. The satisfaction and personal feeling of accomplishment is great because you have acted as the representative of your neighbors and friends. Like any other position of responsibility, there is the discussion back and forth and agreeing on a decision that can be honored by all. Teamwork never fails! What are the qualities usually found in past members of the Board of Directors? Common sense and good judgment. Having them as part of your character, you will serve your fellow residents well. DISTRICT DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT We had a great January meeting! Thank you all for attending. Elaine Jolly Hollman with Save A Small Dog Rescue was awesome.
