56 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2020 | The Winter Tournament has come to an end — except for the important PLAYOFFS! They will be played on Mon., March 2 and Tues., March 3. If you're new to Bocce, come out and see what it's all about. If you're old to the game (aren't we all?!), come join the fun and cheer on your friends. We play at 1, 2, and 3 pm. If you are planning to play the Spring Tournament and haven't yet signed your team up, you'd better hop to it — entries must be in by March 6. Play begins the week of March 16 and runs through the week of May 18, a 10-week tournament. Because we have many more teams signing up in the spring, we play Monday through Thursday, at 3, 4, 5, and 6 pm. Just a reminder, Bocce Club dues need to be paid for the 2020 season. They are still $12 a year, a real bargain. One of the things it gets you is a free pizza party in April! More on that later. If you're signing a team up, each team member also owes the $3 team fee. For some reason the money issue seems to confuse people. If you're not sure what is what, call Dutch at (951) 845-0392. She'll do her best to help you out. As always, entries go to 1288 Pleasant Valley. There is a box at her door. Friends of Bocce Friday mornings, 9 am in the North Clubhouse. Cost is only $5 per week (or $20 per month). Tai chi (Tie-Chee) is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Originally developed for self-defense, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. The tradition of Tai Chi dates back to at least the 15th century in China, and the practice is based on the belief that balancing the opposite forces in the body (known as yin and yang) will encourage the flow of chi (energy) through the body to promote health. You may also find Tai Chi appealing because it's inexpensive and requires no special equipment. Tai Chi can be done anywhere, alone or in a group class. If you're looking for a way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi and join fellow Sun Lakers in developing strength in balance, stamina, and flexibility. Info., Dee Coughtry, (951) 381- 4919.
