| OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2020 | 13 Garden Club Remember –Due to the Clubhouse renovation, we will be unable to enter through the front doors. The access to Abravanel Hall will be through the double doors by the stage that is next to our outdoor plant sharing table All OHCC residents are welcome to attend the OHCC Garden Club General Meetings held on the second Wednesday of each month in Abravanel Hall beginning at 9:30 am for refreshments and mingling. Stop at the Greeters' table for a nametag and to pick up a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the beautiful plants that we give away each month. If you want to sign up for membership or for volunteering, stop at our Hospitality table. Also, check out the sharing table outside the double doors by the stage. You may find that perfect plant to fill a spot in your garden. Our next general meeting is Wed., March 11. Spring is here! Our March meeting will be titled Heirloom Tomatoes – From Seed to Salsa and our speaker will be Karan Cooper Greenwald who will be preparing us for our spring gardening and teaching us everything we need to know about wonderful, delicious Heirloom Tomatoes. Karen is a Master Gardener who began gardening with her grandmother at the age of two. She was officially crowned the "Tomato Queen" by the Point Loma Garden Club. Just a reminder to our wonderful members and guests. As we know, Abravanel Hall was brilliantly designed to have outstanding acoustics. Therefore, conversations in the audience can be heard throughout the hall. This is distracting to the speakers (and you know the quality of our microphones) and others in the audience. Please remember to silence your cell phones and go outside if you need to have a conversation. Thank you so very much. Upcoming Events: We will be planning fun and informative outside events in 2020 so keep listening at the general meeting and watching for your bulletins so you don't miss out on your Garden Club's upcoming activities. And, of course, we are planning our Spring Garden Your and luncheon on May 13. Gardening is cheaper than therapy and you get tomatoes. Village Vets Our first general meeting this year in February was a great success. Our speaker was author and member of the motion picture industry, Gail Chatfield. She spoke about the 75th Anniversary of the Marines landing on Iwo Jima. Our next Village Vets members meeting will be on Thurs., March 26. The speaker, Civil Air Patrol Major Roy Knight was recently in the news, as he and his brother flew back to America his father's remains, who was shot down in Laos on May 19th 1967. Major Knight is a Command Pilot, and mountain certified mission pilot involved in numerous distress and non-distress missions. He is currently with the California Civil Air Patrol. Refreshments will be available and doors open in Abravanel Hall at 2:30 pm. I'm sure you will enjoy this speaker. If you didn't get the opportunity to join us on Do Dues Day, you can leave a check for $10 per person at the Clubhouse front desk. Please mark on your check "for dues" and have it placed in the Village Vets envelope. We will contact you for any additional information necessary, to ensure you get our monthly Bugle publication and email notices. We will continue to send the Bugle to our past members for a few more months, so please remember to bring your membership to current status. If you need a new American flag or assistance getting one installed, please call Tom Brennan at (760) 842-1470. He will be happy to help.
