| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2020 | 9 Enjoying Retirement in Sun Lakes By Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly You are finally ready to retire. You are convinced you have enough in the bank and invested or in a pension and you have been searching for months and months for a place to land. You were getting tired of visiting places and not finding what you want. One day you stumble across Sun Lakes Country Club because someone told you it was - "the best ever." When you toured Sun Lakes you knew it was going to be "home." Everything looked so nice, so well taken care of, and as you wandered around the complex people said "hello" and smiled. Imagine, you could be part of this great place. In due time, you move in and the garage is full of boxes. Six months or 20 years later there are still boxes unopened. But you are settling in and the yards are looking good and suddenly you realize, it is time to take a breath and relax and enjoy your retirement. If you have a spouse or companions, or if you are by yourself, the question is the same — "now what do we do?" Retirement is different from everyday working schedules. When you are retired, you wake up in the morning and the first thing that pops in your mind is — "what am I going to do today?" The whole schedule is blank, nothing to do, there isn't a place you have to be all day — ISN'T IT WONDERFUL? However, after awhile the "nothing to do" gets boring, you can only go shopping so many times, or visiting, or take a day trip or see your kids. This is when the value of living at Sun Lakes Country Club comes into play. You can sit at home and become "couch potatoes" or a recluse or dig in the yard until you have turned over all of your real estate — or you can get out of the house and enjoy the amenities surrounding you. There are 80-some clubs or hobbies to choose from, or you may consider, tennis, golf, going to the swimming pool, bocce ball, pickleball, billiards or pool, the workout facilities, and so on. Don't ever let anyone hear you say, "There's nothing to do here." They will tell you you're lazy and don't want to do anything in the first place! Obviously, the other side of the coin happens every day. There are people moving into Sun Lakes who are still working. They have a few years of work to complete their time. However, the day comes and tomorrow morning they stay home. The work schedule is over, the time has come to enjoy each day doing something of their choice. What a wonderful feeling!
