44 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2020 | From the bandstand to the recording studio, from the big screen to the small screen, Doris Day's remarkable career has spanned more than six decades. A Sentimental Journey, The Doris Day Songbook is a tribute to this American icon, starring Joanne O'Brien as our musical historian, embodying the vim, verve, and wit of the music and stories that span generations. Joanne's voice was meant for this music. Joanne takes us on a very "Sentimental Journey" of the music of Doris Day, from the time she was a teenager just starting out, to how she survived four tumultuous marriages, lost it all, and came back without missing a beat. Through story and song, the life of Doris Day is presented with joy, laughter, melancholy, and victory. After her film career took off, she never went back to live performances. Hearing Joanne sing and tell Doris Day's story is the closest you will ever get to having Doris sing live herself. Joanne O'Brien is a vocalist, performer, and motivational speaker based in Los Angeles. Referred to as "The Inspired Siren" and "The Carole Lombard" of cabaret, her humor, classical roots, pop stylings and uncanny impersonations make for an evening of laughter, inspiration, and tears. Joanne moves people as she becomes the song, bringing meaning and connection to the lyrics, taking her audience on an unforgettable journey. Tickets for the show are $20 for members, $25 for non-resident guests, and this month it's open seating again! Doors open at 6 pm, show begins at 7 pm. Make checks out to Friendship Club, and deliver them to 5168 Rio Bravo Drive. For cancellations and information, call Pat at (951) 845-3789 or Leeann at (909) 973-3143. It is an excellent topic for Sun Lakers at this time. If you did not sign up for the Passover Seder on April 1, mark your calendar to look forward to next year's YCC date. It is a tradition that requires the remembrance of what occurred with the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. It is meant to reinforce our commitment to freedom as long as others in the world are not free. Even though it is a serious occasion, it is also a joyous event. The actual Seder meal is quite tasty and each item selected has a historical meaning. The Yiddish Club uses Thomas Catering, which is always wonderful and Sun Lakers love it. You can join the club at any time. Don't sit home alone. There is a little bit of something for everyone. Give us a try. On your birthday/ anniversary you will even receive a special treat!
