FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2020 31 Our meetings focus on current events and concerns to our residents as well as our surrounding community. At our March meeting, we covered a variety of topics. The Beaumont Police Department gave updates on local concerns. Waste Management was here to make residents aware of new rules regarding commercial waste, because new rules will also effect residential waste in the near future. General Manager Eric Zarr gave updates about the District Delegate and Board of Directors election process. Our last topic was of concern to all, cold/flu and concerns about a new virus COVID-19. COVID-19 is new to us all, but some of the same steps should be taken against this virus as we should do in our normal flu season. Discussed were some important tips. • If you are sick, please stay home until you are well. • Keep six feet distance between you and someone who is coughing and sneezing. • Wash your hands often, minimum 20 seconds. • Use hand sanitizer if you are out in public and have no access to soap and water. • Keep your hands away from your face as much as possible. • Each individual is different, some need to be more cautious. Discuss your current health concerns with your doctor annually and have a plan designed to help keep yourself healthy during cold and flu season. • Face masks are recommended only if you are sick in order to protect people around you. They are NOT recommended to be worn by those who are healthy as they are close to your face and can absorb the germs from your surroundings. • Have an emergency plan. All emergency plans should contain two weeks of supply of all essential items. This practice will help keep you from the panic buy mode and insure that you have everything you need in any emergency. All retail stores were out of stock on hand sanitizer. If you are interested in making your own it is very easy: mix 1/3 cup 100 percent aloe vera gel with 2/3 cup 99 percent isopropyl alcohol, and add optional drops of your favorite essential oil for scent. The community garage sale is April 4, from 8 am to 2 pm. This is a great opportunity for new residents to be able to re-home items that they no longer need now that they have downsized. It is important that residents take extra precautions during this time as the gates will be open to visitors looking for treasures. There will be a lot of traffic on our streets, many not knowing where they are going so please slow down and be patient. If you are participating in the garage sale make sure that your valuables are secure as well as access to your home. If you are not participating, be aware that you may have many neighbors who are, so make sure your garage and home are secure. Neighborhood Watch meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 am in The Lodge Ballroom. Our next quarterly night meeting will be held on May 13 at 6 pm in the RCN Lobby for residents who cannot attend our morning meetings. All residents are welcome to attend. ~ Donna Lewis, donna.lewis4862@yahoo.com Neighborhood Watch
